Exactly. I think a lot of them are missed because there is a misconception on the part of a lot of enforcement officers that E-logs are somehow "foolproof". I heard an enforcement officer in a scale tell another one, "Oh, I don't even bother to look when they're E-logs, they can't fool those things", and I have had several get that "deer in the headlights" look when trying to read them. When they realize the $ize of the "opportunity" there will be much closer $crutiny.

I dont know what system you are running, but we can change/correct any duty status except On Duty Driving and Off Duty Driving. Those duty status cant be corrected in the truck... The only way you can make a mistake on your log while driving is if you drive off duty when you are supposed to be on duty driving or vice versa.

However, if the driver approves his logs before the corrections are made, then the log office has to get involved in correcting the log.

I can go a couple days without approving logs before the QC will flash a reminder that I need to...

Where do you get your information from? Are you saying a driver can alter tracking? Or the office can change it? Again, care to elaborate?

For the most part, e-logs are fullproof. You can't unintentionally go over your hours as when you start running out of time, the EOBR will start throwing a hissy fit. Plus, you will get a red flashing light that just sticks out like a sore thumb. It's the EOBR's way of telling the scalemaster "this driver is in violation".

Right, but you can edit and skip fuel stops, PTIs, and dock time...

Or you can drive on a trainee's paper log time, or your team partner's login.

I think that you could alter the tracking information. The problem is this would only change the information in the truck, the information uploaded to the computer would probably not match and should cause a discrepancy. I'd love to test my theories, but I'm thinking my company wouldn't lend me a peoplenet to test this out.

I don,t know anything about elog or have elog. I sure if you backed the truck brakes off, and then drove with the truck brake on, if wouldn,t register the truck moving, or mess the elog up real good.:biggrin_25525: The truck parking brake is only on 1 drive axle anyway, if you backed the brakes off a little you would still have brakes.

Good idea, but the e log is activated by the trucks speed from the ecm, or whenever you move more than a mile or two. Whichever comes first

I gotta put my 2 cents in. I am no fan of e-logs and they can be cheated by a loose grey area of the regulations in force the same way paper log guys do it but possibly making it worse by not being able to stop and rest then " make adjustments" ( wink wink) when needed.

That is by logging your load or unload time in the sleeper thus much of the time forcing you to use your 8 and 2 split. And in the same effect could very possibly force you to drive tired.

Lets say you wake up from a fresh 10 hour break then drive 5 hours to deliver to a large nameless warehouse where you sit for 8 hours getting unloaded. Well being the company man/woman we all are we log this as our 8 in the sleeper although we didn't sleep a wink because we just woke up 5 hours ago.

So now we drive 3 hours to our next pick up and it takes us 2 hours to get loaded so again we log this as sleeper to finish our split. Sure you may nap part of this time but it is only 2 total hours and you had to bump the dock and check in and out etc. so we'll say you got a 1 hour nap here. So now you have been awake 17 hours with a 1 hour nap.

So now you have 7 hours left to drive after being awake 17 hours with a 1 hour nap and if you work for a uncaring company they are going to want this 7 hours out of you thus could be putting your 11th hour of driving will be your 24th hour of being awake with only a 1 hour nap.

And now said uncaring company could only let you have a 8 hour break again. Which hopefully your going to shower, eat, do paperwork, etc.

So Yeah e-logs for the win I feel safer already.

Suppose... Blah, blah, blah. Do it once, alright... Do it twice you are a moron.

Now that everyone had read your post, they now know that maybe trying or forcing yourself to get some sleep while sitting in a dock is a lot smarter than sitting up playing with your phone, computer, etc etc and suddenly realizing "uh, I guess I got an 8 here, now I gotta drive tired"

2 hours tops will i wait awake in a dock, otherwise I'm already asleep or will turn in at the 2 hour mark... I either get a pretty good nap, or murphys law has them knocking on my door within 10 minutes of shutting my eyes.

    Either way Im a winner...
