Pick your company based on what they have to offer not what kind of transmissions are in their trucks. If the company offers what you want and have autos go for it.

You should hire on to learn all you can. But if the jobs are far in-bewteen then you take what you can. You always want to go with the company that will help you the best. That includes pay, benefits, and what you'll learn for your future. If it came down to two companies and one had an auto and the other had standards I'd take the standards. Simply because more companies have standards transmissions today.

I do hope you are not going into this industry blind. I hope that you have done tons of research to know what companies have what type of benefits. You need to look at what type of medical, some have HMO's which are trash and others have PPO's. What type of investments does the company have for retirement? Some have just a 401 and other have company paid retirement along with programs you can invests in and the company will kick some in too. Does the company pay for your school if it's related to work? and so on. My last job had so many benefits they had to send a representative to me for a day. So you want to look. But never ever hire on just because they have the truck you like or a certain transmission.

Iam actually taking what I can get because of my lack of experience I dont know if Ill stay with them but I need to get into a company and start driving to stay fresh Thats why Iam concerned with sticking with manual transmissions because it will keep lots of windows open in the future

I haven't seen a question about what type of transmission you drove at your last employer. I must admit it's been a few since I filled one out but is that a common question?

Get the experience without being abused. Once you've learned the mechanics of shifting you will always know how.

Dang... but I hope your right. Been driving auto's almost 3 years now and am getting ready to start with a company that has 10 speeds. They know I've been driving auto's and don't seem to be to concerned about it. Kind of get the feeling from talking to their safety guy, that he's willing to help me pull my head out if needed. :biggrin_25523:

How can anyone forget how to drive a manual transmission ? That's how you can figure out who the STEERING WHEEL HOLDER's are !!! And if you get offended, "WELL",.........."EXCUSE.........ME"....................
