Trust me I've called every mill / lumber sales place in Miami and surrounding areas. Everyone here is either yella pine or pt lumber. Rare to find any good hardwoods and when you do find them, they're charging an arm and a leg and 2 months worth of mortgage payments. :biggrin_25521:

Do you guys think that the rough cypress used for railroad ties will work on the stepdeck?

Sorry, I lost this thread. It's dry stacked air cured lumber. Problem with rough sawn, you might have to plane some down as thicknesses can vary a 1/4" or so. But I just happen to know where there is a used Dewalt 12" planer for $100. :)

    GrillN Thanks this.

Guys I'm also looking for lumber and misc. tarps for the stepdeck. A good set of 20K+ lbs ramps will also be needed. If anyone has any leads, please let me know. Thanks

I think poplar and ash will be very prone to cracking and splittting, but i only have experience with these 2 woods through carpentry and not as a trailer decking.
I redecked mine last summer with hemlock. It's cheap and durable, although propobly not available in your location.
I think it took me about a day to do it. It is labor intensive and you are left with a lot of scrap lumber. I burned my scraps in the stove. Also a big plus if you have a drill DR. or know how to sharpen bits manually!!!!! Hope this helps and good luck!!

Personally I would not even consider using pine on any of my trailers.

I've seen people that have just taken sheets of steel and covered the
deck that way. Works pretty good.

For a good set of 20k ramps you looking at around $2700 and the prices
just go up from there. I've got a set of the 30k and they are very nice and work really well.

Check this out for the ramps... http://www.landsport.com/LL Ramps.htm
