2400-2500 miles per week is plenty miles.

.85cpm is crap. I was making more than that per mile as an o/o 13 years ago.

They dont want you to lease and fail, or they fail..... it only makes sense to lease you a truck and help you suceed!!! The drivers who avoid the lease are probably the ones who were denied for felonies or to many violations!!!

I don't know a lot about trucking yet. But in general don't think any company that leases you a truck will leave themselves open for too much liability or failure. If anyone is going to lose in that proposition it will be you.

I suppose its "big" of you to give the trucking companies the benefit of the doubt. They are counting on skeptics to keep their loser programs full. Even here on this forum there are plenty of horror stories of the fleece purchase that can tell you from personnel experience the disaster that will await you.
Keep in mind that there is a reason why the company pushes their fleece the way they do. Its NOT good for you, but it is good for them.

Stay away from the fleece purchase like its the plague.

That's what I like about Prime.....they aren't trying to sell you a truck. They told us right up front...this is not a lease/purchase. It is a straight out lease. You pay X amount per month for 36 mos. and at the end you lease another.....of course you can buy the truck if you want to.....but why buy a truck with 600K mi on it.....just get in a brand new one and carry on.....keep right on going. Of course, they won't let you get 600K on one...They take you out at 462K and put you in a new one....for teams that like to run....that's just a little under 2 yrs. Your lease is considered fulfilled, and you get your check. They write them every day for $5K-$18K (that's the max I've personally seen).

OH, and to address the original title of the thread......You get 72% of gross + 100% of Fuel Surcharge (which is averageing .30 cpm). They pay the Lumpers, stop pay, detention, etc.

    Steve & Lo....

Been reading your posts regarding Prime, and know that you have been back with them for just a few months, but have a few questions for you.

I have been considering going back otr and have been trying to figure out if leasing with Prime would provide me with an average gross wage of $1000 per week, pay all the truck expenses, including building a maintenance fund, and still be able to put some money in the bank?

I am located an hour west of Minneapolis, MN and my first choice would be flat beds if Prime has plenty of freight coming in an out of this area. If not reefer would probably be my second choice. Can you give me any insight as to what kind of and how much freight Prime has in the upper midwest?

Last question....I have pulled dry van and reefer otr and hauled heavy equipment for a local excavation company from 05/2000 to 08/2004. Having not driven otr since 04/2000, from what you know about Prime would I have to go through there entire training program or would I be able to short cut that somewhat?

Thanks for any info you can give me and keep it safe out there!!!

I would never ever ever pull a reefer again! There is way too much dock time there, and way to much waiting around for loads. Alot of reefer loads go into cities, and it is hard to get out sometimes and it is not uncommon for your bounce miles to be up. If I could get a 100% drop n hook gig pullin a reefer I would do that. I would go out and buy a truck and step deck and haul equipment / oversize loads around, plus you have the abilty to haul regular flatbed work. I was one of many victims from CR England lease and I learned a very very valuable lesson that never lease a truck always buy that way if the company doesn't work out you can go somewhere else. Just my 2 cents worth.

Dan....I don't know anything about the Flatbed side of our operation. I do know that there is a lot of dry/refer freight going in and out of your area. My best paying load(per mi) since I have been back @ this came out of your area!! And one of the best loads I've had went into your area. The potential to make money is there. My gross revenues have been $5822.35(HIGH) and $1458.77(LOW). I had one week in the $2500 range, and 2 weeks in the $4500 range. The LOW week was last week, where I made a BONEHEAD decision to take my truck into Freightliner to get a couple of small Warranty issues taken care of......and ended up sitting 3 days:biggrin_25510:. But as I have stated in the past....I made the decision....and the work was not necessary....I should have waited until I got home to have it done....but....I'm still getting my legs back under me. Also took this past weekend off to go see my dad on his 80th birthday! So, even though the money wasn't good this past week.....It was MY decision.....Prime didn't do it to me. So far, if I want to work.....they got more than enough to keep us all busy.

Wish I could answer your F/B question.....but, I can't. But, if you don't mind pulling a refer.....the money is good....and like I said...they pay the lumpers....so it's not like the old days when you only got so much for lumpers and had to come up with the rest yourself.

I would make sure you can get plenty of F/B freight.....cause I know there is plenty of dry/refer freight going into and out of WI.

Good Luck with whatever you choose.

By the way....on the HIGH week, I banked $2200.00 and I don't expect to do that very often(while running single)......most have been between $1100.00 and $1400.00 including all the take-outs(except taxes).
