i have been a CB user for well over 20 years. that wattage from the cobra is good. i would not run it throyugh any prdinary small amp. you can get a texas star HIGH DRIVE, it has the variable knob on the front. texas star makes the hi drive in the 250, 300 400 and 500 watt sizes.
i have a Browning BR28 antenna. you can get them new from amazon.com for 28 bucks plus shipping. it is an all aluminum antenna, rated at 2000 watts i believe. very good antenna. be sure your system has good SWRs and has a good ground and you will be all set. be sure to check the SWRs again after you add the amp inline. and run them both direct to the battery. dont use the in cab wiring. it sucks and you will pick up a good amount of electrical noise. -
I would like to know what the shop did to get 48w's out of a Cobra 29...
"IF" that 29 is swinging 48w's, to run most Amps without burning everything up right out of the box, you would need your 29 to just be DK'ing a couple of watts...swinging 48 would be OK for something like a 4-pill Amp...48w swing into a small 2-pill, and your going to be driving the snot out of the box.Yup Thanks this. -
Naah,Ive run 1500+ thru twin 5' in the past without issue
With all the good quality stainless offerings out there I'm wondering why the OP is set on a glass stick ?
-
i have had it checked at 2 different cb shops and both said its swings 48 watts as far as what all is done to it Im not sure I dont know what all has been done to it but I do know it has mossfet finals and a few other things in it..
and the reason i am set on a glass stick is because of where it is mounted.. IF I had a different truck and could mount the stick on my mirror I would much rather run a coil antenna but with it being mounted behind the sleeper I cant get the coil high enough to be over the top of the truck therefor to my understanding and I could be wrong a glass antenna is all I can use.. Atleast use correctly -
find a cb shop that sells skipshooter antenna's, these are good wellmade fiberglass antenna's made in ms. i see you are in memphis, swing by ray's cb shop in west memphis ar, by the petro, he should have a selection in stock. ray has been my tech for years. and he can also give you some direction on what linear would work for you best.

just go with a 102" whip and be "good enough/better then most"
Dont sweat the 48 pep swing thing, its common and hardly worth arguing over with some of the "anal" that attempt to infest this forum.
JJD is alright,he runs outlaw power and knows how the shops are stating 48 on the swing.

I suggest the linked post to show why amps should not be overdriven unless you want to buy one amp after after another. It's discussed about halfway through the post. It has to do with amps that have drivers, but your radio is already a driver, so..
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...orum/146733-amplifier-power-claims-bogus.html
For those reasons I suggest if you want best performance and no electronics trouble, why not spend a little more and get a no-driver 8 transistor amp like the sweet sixteen. It won't sweat over your radio and will make much more output than a 4-transistor amp will on the same 48 watts of drive. -
Most ya'll fail to understand the "majority" on TRR are Fleet Truck oriented
and CAN NOT RUN Aux POWER,much less a linear.
Useing 1X boxs with lowered radio dead key that allow the box to loaf
is about as "safe" as it gets.Thats what the High-Low switchs are for . . . . . -
There are low drive and high drive linears. Most used in CB's are low drive needing only 2 or so watts to drive them. With the 48 watts you have already it will probally be nessary to have the power turned down on your radio to match the input of the linear you select or else you will fry the linear.
