Help with a SWP 4600 Turbo

    I purchased this radio from RadioActive a few years ago and it never really lived up to the hype. they did a lot of extras to it that I don't remember he!! I don't even know what the switches do any more so my question: is there a radio shop in or neer phoenix az that can straiten it out?

    I know it has the super wap pack and the super receive and a switch that is suposto switch it to a 4 watt radio ...ECT

    I have read and searched the forum for an answer but all I get is conflicting opinions about the radio and no recommendations for some one to make a good functioning radio out of it.

    I want to have a good tech make sure it is aligned (not splattering) and find out what the switches do.
    I know there is a guy across from the Flying J but I don't like him because of past experience, so I am looking for a good (hopefully local) tech that others have used and trust.

    I do not beleve in WACK-PACKS and most other " MODS ". A GOOD tech is not going to make you radio sound like junk or splatter since there are many things you can do to make most radios sound louder.

    AS for super-receive AKA 2sc2999 replacing a 2sc1674 .... it is a $1 part
    There is not much else you can do except for channel guard filters or MAYBE replacing some other 2sc1674 in the IF with another 2sc2999.

    You might try sparkys or even send it to the factory ( Connex )

    Not really
    Alignment is to get the best audio quality and the most transmit power... of course not all that the radio could produce if it was turned all of the way up. Correct.?

    Splatter is where you are talking on say CH19 and 17,18,20,21 can hear the conversation or some distortion of it.
    Correct.?

    BECAUSE .....

    So many radios are not run right the transmiters will produce " spalter " also know as TRASH outside to the channel the radio is on NO amount of alignment will help you from this .... IF they are puting trash out over several channels you will hear them because they are realy there ...
    Class C linears are a offender as is overmodulation.

    ALIGNMENT ..... TRANSMITER

    Should not change audio other than corectly adjusting levels and checking to see that modulation does not go over 100% NEG peaks. AS for output you can get only so much so if things are peaked or even close that all fokes ...

    ALIGNMENT...... RECEIVER

    To do this you MUST have a good signal generator don't even think of trying it with out one.

    SEVERAL mods are know to work like the 2sc2999 sub for the 2sc1674 RF stage and channel guard filters also some died upgrades for the noise blanker work very well on most radios. EXTERNAL noise is so high on CB that high that you should be able to hear it as soon as you put a antenna on the radio.

    So that means your radio is doing what you paid for right ? :biggrin_25524:
    If you "dont remember" call them and have the work order pulled and reviewed then you should be back to square one with your
