    Thank you. Best way to describe it. You must be comfortable (good sleep, etc) to get out there and drive in the elements. Idling to be comfortable can also be a safety issue, if you really look at the whole picture. That's why my company really dosen't make a big deal about idling if you don't have an APU.

    That's just an idle threat.

    Seriously.... inform the DM "I'm sorry you feel that way, please route us back to the terminal".

    Have your next move already set up, and go for it... no one needs to deal with heat (or cold) and try to work and sleep. I live in San Antonio, spent plenty of time in Laredo... and there's no way in HELL I'd go without idling down here in the summer.

    I've worked 4 werner twice now.Solo for 6 months & team w/ my wife for 2 month.They sat us 3 wkns in a row w/ low miles.We turned our trk in after that 3 wkn. They r really bad getting u miles n really poor management.!!

    As this economy continues to slow down,(and it is) freight will get slower and companies will fight for any scraps they can get. The easiest way for them to cut costs is reducing fuel usage and lower driver pay. So yes they will bust your chops continually for idle time. And your right, they are looking for anything else they can use to terminate you, such as bad attitude, drug test, late for p/u or delivery, anything. So be careful. I would write a polite message on the QC explaining the temps in the area that your setting as the reason for the need to idle the truck. Get them to put it on the QC that you are not allowed to idle, phone conversations are useless. Make sure and point out that it is too hot to sleep, so you won't be properly rested and able to drive safely when you do get a load.
    When I ran team my DM started to bust my chops for idle time, when we had to sit in Sidney NE. in July for six days with a broken trailer. I wrote him a message, in which I stressed safety and he backed down. I also reminded him that if they would get us out of there, we wouldn't be idleing.

    If I were you I would look for another company, the others are right, teams are in high demand. If even one of you have 6-8 months experience and you both have good MVR's you can go about anywhere. Yes it would be nice to establish some stability, but believe me, most companies know Werner for what it is.

    +1 on the Conway suggestion, that would be the first place I would look for a company/team. They seem to treat their drivers with at least a reasonable amount of respect.

    But have something lined up and confirmed before you leave. Make sure and give Werner at least 7-10 days notice and request that you be routed to the terminal closest to your home or wherever you want to quit at. But make sure you take the truck to one of their terminals. Don't let them talk you into just meeting a driver at a truck stop and turning it over. They will make it look like you abandoned the truck. PUT EVERYTHING ON THE QUALCOM, DON'T USE THE PHONE.
