They have tons of drivers begging for those loads to the northwest in the summer. Very few volunteers in the winter. Nobody wants to deal with chains, especially in the "super volvos' that have nowhere but the side box to carry them. Most of the loads I've taken northwest were in the winter and I had to carry chains. I've never had to chain up a Van Wyk truck. They claim to give preference to summertime northwest freight to drivers who have been willing to do it in the winter, but I'd be willing to bet they'll give it to whoever is available at the time and has the hours. It's all in timing.

Cory runs some California stuff out of (his neck of the woods), but I hear from the rumor mill is that only Cory's "favorites" get those loads. I'm not too familiar with Cory's freight other than his back-hauls to the midwest. But I have done the Albany thing a couple times, and several times he's sent me to Pokemon City.

i don't think its that big of a problem, we have mention the name of it a couple of times in this forum, we won't get into talking rates outside of the fact that it pays pretty well...... but most guys don't like to talk about how much money they make anyway...

but really its all about who wants to run it, i wont say its "cory's" favorites, i #### sure don't want to go to Cali and So on, and majority of the fleet don't want to be out on the road past 7 days..... I'm pretty sure if you volunteer to run it or say something about going out there he'll give it to you.. .but if your a driver who ####### and nitpick at everything then i doubt he will, i've heard guys complain about the most minor #### and wonder why they don't get the gravy runs.....

My friend that i run with from time to time, he wants to go down south with that special shipper you speak of basically every week, but quite a few guys get that load going down south including him.... most of the time he thinks josh and cory is full of it when he don't get to run down there that week, but i just think its timing and all, if you got a guy thats sitting at the yard early friday morning and your not getting back until friday night then why not should that first guy get offered that load first... thats my opinion,

but i don't think it's a favorite thing, mushroom has only been here a few months and get that load??? come on now...

    Minivans,

good point on the rates, nobody's business as far as I'm concerned, besides those Steven's folks do like to troll LOL. On another note about favorites, I know there are the pets, for whatever reason, because when you go up north, call up for a back haul it's " I'll call you back", when there are other drivers who unload and haul ###. I hear certain driver's call up the day before for a reload, yup, tried it and it didn't work.
Well I guess if you got it that way, rock on.

I've observed events in which I arrive at a receiver BEFORE another VW and get empty before him, and yet he leaves before me. But based on that information alone, an objectionable person cannot honestly jump to a conclusion that supports favoritism. You don't know the other details. The other guy might live nearby and just got "cut loose" to go home or something. Or he's going somewhere you don't want to go, or he has more hours, or who knows what. Or maybe he just went to a truck stop or to get a washout or something.

I am aware of the rumors of favoritism, but I remain "undecided" on whether I believe them or not. It's easy to get sucked into the conspiracy theories, but it's also easy to agree with Mike or Tim when they imply that the rumor-mill drivers are nothing more than a bunch of simple minded idiots always jumping to conclusions with second-hand information and one-sided perspectives.

(For the record, I've never actually heard either of those guys use the words "simple minded idiots". That's my own paraphrasing)

Sometimes multiple people can eyewitness a crime or traffic accident and each person gives a wildly different account to the investigators. It's all about perspective and individual interpretation.

I guess I need to work on making my list bigger for my next trip to Sheldon!

Can anyone confirm overnight parking at Hy-Vee in Chariton? I haven't been there yet...

Yes you can park overnight there. They have a staging area outside the gates, but you have to go to the gate to check in first. Then they'll have you go in and do a U-turn.

You're in 757??? That used to be Carl Jackson's truck. Nice gentlemen, older fella. Lives in Rock Rapids or Rock Springs or Rock SOMETHING, not far from Sheldon.

    bbechtel16 Thanks this.

Concerning pets, home boys, favorites, yes men, servants, etc., I'm not really worried as long as it doesn't infringe on my operation, it's just funny to observe those types and what they will do to get ahead. I know, in my former occupation, dealing with countless people all day long will have a tendency to make you look at things a bit differently. Not trying to change the system, but I will rock the boat.

Well, I believe Mr. Jackson may have retired or moved on. There was still a padlock & seal stamp in the truck when I got in.

The best to him, the truck's in spectacular shape.

He's a decent guy. He kept his truck neat and tidy and was based out of Sheldon, so you know that things would get written up and fixed right away.

The last time I saw him was in Sheldon. His diesel pickup wouldn't start, had dead batteries. We couldn't figure out how to get that big 12 volt generator/jump-start thing in the back of the shop pickup to put out any juice, so we had to use 757 to start his pickup. My jumper cables were mysteriously missing from my side box but "Husker Trucker" was there and he was the first driver I encountered in my "quest" to find a pair of jumper cables to help get Carl's pickup started, so I borrowed his.
