I record each load separately and cost them accordingly.
It goes back to my accounting time and is just something I do with no thoughts.
I consider FSC as something that is changed and may run a week or so behind at times.
Then I can see the exact load and look at the fuel costs and examine what would happen if the FSC had been higher so to speak.
CPM for fuel this year?

.579 per mile.

Same for me although I don't see much FSC on loads that I pull. But in the past I had it seperated out in my spread sheet and would watch if it was in green or red. That was a dedicated account so I used the red weeks to motivate me to watch my driving habits. Still do that now but using total cost per mile. As I see that increase I look for ways to bring it down.

figured as (fuel cost + IFTA cost) / total miles. I drive a lot in Oregon which uses a VMT so my monthly IFTA tax runs about $500 a month. -
I feel your pain. Did a regular run LA/Portland grossed out and had to run half tanks so going into OR I was low on fuel and had to buy more than I should have in OR. My IFTA was high plus the pump price is also high. Back in '06 and '07 it was only $.05 cheaper than CA.
Plus ran for a company that figured IFTA based on company averages. And I came back MT. So my average was in the low 7's but company average was in mid-5's. -
I had a difficult time getting Swift to raise the IFTA average for me. In theory the average should be based on what they measure, but the practice was to set a max limit. I don't know if this was done to prevent cheating or just one of those scammy things companies do to drivers. Over the course of three years I finally got them up to 9.5 mpg, but they refused to go higher. If I ever get my truck to run consistantly above 10 I will lean on them some more.

It is set-up to be based on what your truck average is for the quarter. Some states will allow fleet averages but unless they are paying for your IFTA then they should use your actual numbers. Companies that offer O/O's to pay IFTA do this to make life easy. They go by company numbers and do not have to perform the extra steps for each truck. But a bet only a handfull of drivers at Swift or any of the other big companies understand how this works. It is likely the people doing the calculations don't understand it. They just do what they are told.
