Stevens Transport is one of the companies I'm considering. I've been trying to understand their tuition reimbursement policy, but I'm getting conflicting info. One page on their website says tuition ($4200.00) is "waived" if you stay there for one year (however, "repayment" commences at a rate of ~$25.00/wk. thru paycheck deductions). I'm not sure how that's administrated at the one year point.
Another page says incremental reimbursement "commences" after you pay off the financed loan (via the same payroll deduction, which would take about 3.5 yrs.). The "rush-rush" info I've received via phone hasn't been any clearer either.
I just want to know if a one year commitment on my part will "pay for" (waive) the tuition (not some future "promised" reimbursement of years of payroll deductions).
Could you explain their tuition reimbursement policy?!?
Thanks!
Ciao
PS: BTW, how far along are you at this point, and what will they pay you per week during your 8 week driver-training period? Oh, and have they said anything about newbies driving in snowy/icey conditions? -
It was explained to me that if I stay a full year then tuition will be waived but during that year they will be taking 25.oo per check out to be reimbursed for school (25.00 X 52 weeks = 1,300.00). At the year point I was told I will owe nothing. Seems like a good deal to me when you toss in the fact that (as ive read almost everywhere) they have some of, if not the best overall training around and im game. As a driver in training I was told 350.00 a week . After getting out on my own I was told then they will start deducting my bus ticket to school, my housing during school and my tuition (in increments not all at once). As to the snow and ice I believe its the drivers call as far as stopping for "unsafe" (ice) conditions. I start near the end of august and will be glad to update everyone as much as possible.
O and to the phone rush I agree the receptionist and first recruiter (i think its their job) move pretty speedily but get an application and if you're considered you get to talk to someone who's not moving at the speed of light and the'll answer your questions at a better pace.jayhaze Thanks this. -
Thanks very much for the info!
God speed and good fortune.

PS: Obviously, I'm new (and near the beginning of my research). I became aware of Stevens from a classified ad for a local CDL school. I checked out their (Stevens') website (where I discovered the very concept of "in-house" CDL schooling), and it is quite professional and comprehensive (albeit, ambiguous on the tuition reimbursement issue). Would you, however, point to where you read about their training?!
Thanks again! -
