i am new to blogging i am trying to help friend research volvo engines vs peterbilt he is increasing his truck fleet and checking out buying volvos but concerned about volvo engines compared to peterbilt which he can work on with no problems. by posts seems like volvo maybe better to stay away from volve, due to electrical problems and more difficulty to repair is that fair assessment he does some of engine work himself but reading blog seems that may be more difficult with volvo engine

    Hello!

My ocupation is engener of Volvo Dealer.

And I do not like Volvo engines.

Imo - The best engine for Volvo is N14 ore ISX. Cat is good too, but not Volvo engine, especially do not purchase truck with D16C. About SCR - I hate SCR.

So lets compare Freigtliner and Volvo with ISX for exampe and manual transmission.

What to choose it is easy. If you drive truck yourself - get Volvo, becouse less noise, smoth ride, warm during winter time, better safety (made of steel Sweedesh cabine, designed for COE and Conv. use, much better in Jack-Knofe accidents and roll over creashes), looks better Freightliner.
But Volvo is complex truck with many controll units, complicated wiring, require PTT/VTT/VCADsPro software to diagnose, expencive bodyparts, headlamps, doors, door handles, locks.....

If you are owner and someone drives your truck, I'd choose Freightliner Century Class with DD ore Cummins and manual tranny. Yeah, it is noisy shaker, cold when below zero temperatures are outdoors, but... Cabine is light, easy to fix, easy to get parts, everething is cheapper.

hi i was trying to send you a pm but seems like i cant do it :biggrin_25513:

ey buddy, how you doing, i was reading a post with a guy having problems with the engine fan not kicking on when the ac is on, actually im having the same problem, is a 2001 International 9400 Eagle with a Detroit 60 Series, u mentioned you had some diagrams or infor for that, could you share that info please, the last 8 digits are 1C079470, and if can you explain me how that works, right now the system is full, the high pressure sending signal is ground right now, dont know if should be like that or not, i though always have to be 12v or 5v, maybe im wrong, but the sensore is working cuz signal is coming in and out the sensor, do the signal go to the ecu and then send the signal to the air solenoid? or just go staright to the solenoid? thanks again.

A Volvo with a Cummins engine, N14 or ISX
Cummins are durable, million+ milers, parts available, ECM tunes (big ones) (Not sure with the Volvo computer), dealers everywhere. reliable

Volvo are nice to drive and comfortable. I use a manual trans (Its clutch is about to go), but I got in auto in my other 01 Volvo with a N14 and its great. I love Volvo's and so do most companies out there but stick with a cummins engine.

    I drove both...

    Freightliner
+ good mpg (Detroit or Mercedes ) Great truck newer had any issues... They can fix it at any truck stop or anywhere in united states
    - cruise control not close to the stirling wheels, inside not that conf. like KW or Volvo. Little noisey ...

    Volvo
+ good mpg (cummins or Volvo) Great looking truck, really conf. Amazing design. Everything is really close to the driver
    - always something show up, radiator, starter relay, alternator... but biggest problem is nobody have any parts for Volvo (expensive, volvo dealer don't wanna give it to anybody) top of this Volvo dealers only open between 8-8. Monday to Friday. So if you have a problem on friday after 8 you will be stuck there until monday afternoon for sure.

I only have 10y experience i have to say in this war Freightliner a winner

Freightliner or Kenworth, anything else have problems a lot.

Look at what big companies using ? usually freightliner's. Only ups and fedex use Volvo but they leasing not buying!

Swift is the big volvo buyer. My dad knows one guy he worked in the company that had 2012's volvos. They have problems with the cab seal and rain water leaks into the sleeper.
