Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I have seen worse as I strongly looked at this field before going to my current job. What my job pays is what towing companies pay for training. Plus you have to be mechanically inclined which I am not. A good apartment in Jax will cost you around 900 to 1200 from what I am seeing online.
KHU4EA Thanks this. -
Starting out everyone wants top pay.
It just doesn't work that way.
$12 an hour to train on Heavy Wrecker is more than fair.
After you know how to handle the work, you'll make a decent wage.
And who is going to rent an apartment for that price, when you can buy a house for
less !!! -
Ironically, with 15 years experience, two Wreckmaster courses, and all the certs and cards paid by me and current... they'll pay me an extra buck an hour here in SA.... whoop tee doo...
Bigarmin88 and U4EA Thank this. -
That IS horrible........
-
That's why I'm not towing here, not even part-time.

So where would the industry average annual gross be at for heavy wrecker employee's? I know there are a ton of variables, but once someone proved themselves, learned how to operate/tow/pick up most anything sort of annual avg.

I'm driving an F-450 (light duty) auto loader on the weekends....... 8 bucks an hour + tips.... pittifull. But that's the deal around SO FL at the moment. (When I start driving the big rigs I'll get rich)
U4EA Thanks this. -
This is very true. My other work is HVAC service work. I can make $18 - $21 per hour. If I change jobs, for any reason, I usually start around $13 - $15 and have to spend a couple of years working back to the good wage. Sometimes I find I have to start as an installer at less money until a position opens up. Companies want to control costs and they hire just as many jerks as they do performers. They arent going to spend a lot to test drive you.
I firmly believe a good employee will always rise to the top! Now obviously some companies are better than others and the top at some may not be a great place. Still those who consistently perform and do more than is expected of them will be rewarded. If the reward is not proportionate to your efforts, you have to find a better company.
Trust me, your efforts are not wasted, even on a bad company. You get something a little better, experience and job history. Most owners or managers are aware of their competitions reputation and practices. They know if you have done well in less than optimal conditions that you are an above average employee.
