Worth every penny it cost. Central is a very solid and well structured company. Personally, I started there 2 years ago through the company's training program. I used their company training program and stayed for about 13 months. It was everything I expected it to be as for as driving. The company climate was also amiable on the surface. I do not regret my decision to use their program to become an OTR company driver.
That said, my personal experience is personal. I could diatribe all the incidences that transpired, but I will make one blanket, white wash statement: I felt the company lacks a soul. Not soul like groovy, but it was just a gristmill for training as many drivers as it takes to maintain a cash cow minus all the accidents.

Dont take into account the cost of overtuning employees, low moral because you have a cold computer program to more economically dispatch coupled with an unexperienced staff to deploy said fleet. Do not even talk about nights and weekends.

Hope that is not too negative. It actually describes most trucking, as well as corporate business.

I will aspire to be more positive:biggrin_25520:

I know this isnt related to central, but where in the world can I find a 125amp maxi fuse on the road, i found 100s, but I pop them with the inverter loaded, I can turn off the tv and xbox if im cooking, and it will be fine. I have a few in my work stuff at home, but wont be home until the 15th.

I have bar fuses from 100-300 amp, but not maxi, may end up changing out entire setup and just going with a fusable link or something

If you oversize your fuze you are in danger of burning up other things. :yes2557:

Hey guys, im about to start driving for Central Refrigerated (Conley GA.) Just wanted to ask a few questions about them. First off realistic hometime if your hometown is in NC, what is that like? Secondly ive been told after you complete your OTR time with your trainer, you basically get whatever truck they happen to have on the yard at the time, which truck would you guys recommend? Do the trucks come the refrigerators, microwaves, CB radios ect....? Also do they clean the trucks well before they assign a new driver to them, clean the carpet, new mattress, things of that nature. Any help would be great thanks.........!

We use an Inline fuse, never have a problem with fuses popping now.

When you throw an Xbox, with a high draw graphics card and a microwave together, you are drawing WAY too many amps. I had a 1500w that I used with my tv and xbox and never had an issue. But they did have a high draw. I would not have tried to use a hot pad, oven, or microwave with them on.

Just found out why they don't hire from certain states. You have to get your license in a state where you can transfer your CDL to. Illinois, virginia, New York, florida... You can't transfer to those states until you get some drive time in. There are some others too. They are protecting the driver and their investment. I guess if you try to transfer too soon, they will make you take the tests over.

Yeah right. This is the first time I even knew there was a list of drop yards. My permit book doesn't have them in it.

I got my CDL in a 10 speed Volvo, trained in a 15 speed Pete, took my upgrade test back in the 10 speed Volvo. Once you get used to either transmission you can interchange pretty easily.

Overweight is not a problem for Central, NO BMI tests that I have ever heard of. You have to do some lugging around of bags filled with sand to pass their physical exam thingy when you first report to the school. As long as you can lug around up to 75# for about 25 feet, and your BP is under control, that should be fine.

Sleepers have 2 bunks unless you are assigned one of the ultra-light trucks.

Some people prefer to train in the winter so they can have theior first slippery stuff with a trainer to help them through it. I finished my training in Sept last year and did my first winter solo. I was very fortunate, chained only once to got through Vail, CO. Ran up into Salt Lake a couple of times on ice sheet. It's ok as long as no-one is doing stupid stuff and you are paying attention and have a good idea of what your truck is capable of on dry stuff, take the downhills slow (cause there is usually a corner at the bottom, don't lose traction on your drives when you are going up (don't stop or you will be puttin on the chains). I seemed to be in a day before or a day after any really heavy snowfall.
