The exhaust manifold center divider needs to be checked while looking. They have a tendency to crack and erode on the MBN

today was first day this week to run my own truck and I moved a trailer across state and went up and down few hills nothing long and my egts climb to 1050 easily temp rises to 215 and boost will go up to 23psi and fall back down to 18 or sometimes 20. Sad to say my old 98 classic with 500 detroit and 13sp with 358 rears will out pull a cat. Also bobtailing egts get up to 950 just easing along at 1300 rpm up a little hill (WTF) The other truck I have been driving a few days this week has 3406e 13spd with 355 rears. Cat set hp to 550 and the egts never get over 800. Not sure about boost because gauge isnt working but I know its close to 30 from when it worked last time I drove it. And Mr Haney I will be pulling off turbo tommorow and taking off solenoid from filter housing to see if its stuck. Im hoping for the solenoid to be stuck or all this is just cats sick ##### ecm setting for MBN

I'd say you're having a problem with the boost solenoid or wastegate actuator
The MBN engines run high EGT's when they're runnig correctly. The only way to fix this is with the earlier emission standard files in the ECM. -
Can I adjust the wastegate rod on the turbo? If so should it be shorter or longer
-
Until you get rid of the MBN programming in the ECM, you can't do anything but fix the existing problem. The current programming will derate the engine if boost rises above 32 psi. The spring in the wastegate acuator is much weaker in this turbo than the earlier engines turbos, playing with the rod won't help much, also the outer portion of the rod has been crimped down on the threaded section to keep people from doing what you're asking about. If you try to do this you'll twist the rod assembly in half and be in worse shape than you are now. CAT will not sell you a wastegate actuator assembly as a separate part and you'll have to purchase a turbine housing for the turbo to fix it this will be expensive

Mr Haney I pulled the right fuel tank to get leak fixed and when I put it back on I forgot to turn on the valve at the bottom and the next day all the fuel went to right side and and the truck shut off from no fuel in left tank. If my memory is correct the truck was running fine before that. I put new baldwin filters on it the next morning and I noticed it was running different. So this tells me that the solenoid is hung from trash or I hope so anyway. I havent had a chance to do anything yet because its been raining here often.

The solenoid in the filter mounting base has nothing to do with the fuel system. If you look closely you have two separate wiring harness connectors at the secondary fuel filter. One is the fuel temperature sensor, the other which is harder to see and pointed towards the front of the engine is for the wastegate actuator solenoid. The second one I listed is the one that could be causing your low boost conditions. If you look at the steel block bolted to the engine block this block has two 1/4" steel tubes running to it. One feeds boost pressure from the cylinder head to the block and the other feeds boost pressure from the block to the wastegate actuator on the turbo. The solenoid controls when and how the wastegate actuator on the turbo sees boost to open and close the wastegate in the turbine housing of the turbo. If this doesn't work properly the engine either responds with a low boost condition or a high boost condition. If you flash the ECM with either a 6NZ or a 7CZ file this feature will be disabled in the ECM. You can than block the hose at the turbo that supplies the boost signal to operate the wastegate actuator without having the engine derate on you. You also will advance injection timing significantly for better fuel mileage and HP. I just did a MBN 435 HP bridge motor in a Freightliner Columbia that went from consistent 5 mpg since the owner purchased the truck to 7.3 mpg on the first full tank of fuel after I tuned it. I used a conservative tune on the truck since it was a fleet truck and not an O/Ohmtruk Thanks this.

I understand now Mr Haney, but I do remember not having this problem before I ran it out of fuel. Still on the other hand I will arange some other work for myself asap to take off ecm and ship to you for your magic. My work is a little slow right now but I will call you when im ready. You are the greatest help thank you always

this morning I took out boost solenoid and the little rod wasn't hung up. The turbo is 7 months old so it didnt have any burnt out divider. Just earlier I went to cat dealership here and priced that solenoid 204.00 for the mbn engine (no way I told him I would rather have my ecm changed for a little more money). So now the only thing left that makes my truck so sick would be that some ####### has tampered with the settings. The service dept at cat told me they would reset it and update that stupid boost solenoid problem for 100.00. this will be temporary until I can get Mr Haney to fix me up.

tommorow we will see if cat fixes my ride like they say they can. They told me monday they already know what it is and there is an update for the mbn because of the solenoid issues
