I've looked around about getting A company, LLC, then an icc&mcc #'s. Going to legal zoom for the 1st. As far as the 2nd Theres so many company's to choose from that get you your icc. Do some offer more help than other. Should I go cheap (I've found best around $500) but then if I go cheap do they just send you on your way.

I've heard of a company that will get everything you need icc mcc insurance and even a comdata card, and load board. You book the load del it, fax it off to them. Then they pay you for any load. Even if you didn't go thru thier board.

EX; I went looking on say Landstars board I del. it a fax off to company I went to on internet and they get the $ from landstar.

Welcome to the TTR Forum. You are a large amount of research away from moving forward. You need to do your "due diligence" before making any decisions. You can setup your own LLC or Corporation without any legal help. A wise person would hire an attorney to write his oprerating agreement. While I have done it myself, I had no idea what I had missed until I had an attorney write it.

For most of us we get our own authority to be in complete control of our destiny and not leave any money on the table. You don't do that by paying someone else to do this stuff for you.

That being said, you can pay someone but you still do the legwork and put together all the data. IFTA for example, if you pay someone to do that, you still have to track and record the fuel purchases and the miles traveled in each state. Basically you pay someone to fill out the forms that you could do by reading and following the directions.

Please read all the docked threads in the "Ask An Owner Operator" section. Then check out all these threads:

This is a lot of reading but when you are done almost all your questions will be answered and many that you didn't know you had. There are many great experienced Owner/Operators on here that will be glad to help. Still without research you won't really know what to ask. Good luck!

Didn't the ICC go away in the 1990's?

If you are stupid enough to factor freight bills from LS you won't last long.
You need MC authority, there in no longer a ICC, even though the term is still used. The ICC was abolished in 1995.

Its called an example That is why i put *****EX;***** Doesnt' matter whos board you look on *****EX; LANDSTAR, Mercer, Maverick, JRC, Prime, England, King, Anderson, Averitt, Barr, Crete. I could go on.

****The point is I heard there was a company that will get everything you need. When you deliver the load you fax the bills to the company you got you auhthority with. They take care of the rest.

AND As far as Landstar. You had a bad time with them. They mailed me a copy of there load board and i talked to drivers and looked on the board I saw a $4.00 per mile plus fuel. 8x8x8 box 6,000 lb 1500 miles.

Your "authority" isn't with a company, it's with the Feds. You might be confusing "authority" with a lease. So, if you're leased on to a company, you're using their authority, in essence.

I'm not sure what you are saying in that last paragraph about Landstar.

I believe the point that Old Man was making is that Landstar offers a Quick Pay option that gets you your money in 48 - 72 hours and costs less than factoring. Several brokers do this.

Factoring is what you are talking about when you say "a company that ......". Another point could be that most will tell you if you don't have the money to avoid factoring, you don't have enough to run with your own authority.

Do a site search for "factoring/factor companies". You will find plenty of information on this subject.

You can get your DOT and MC's on line...why pay someone for 20 minutes of work?

And, yes, the ICC is long gone... as a matter of fact all ICC #'s were required to off the trucks in '01 IIRC.... some folks didn't get the memo.
