Recently got a cobra 29. have some transmit and receive issues. only getting line of sight for both. (1 mile give or take) and it has gotten annoying. changed the antenna cable from factory to a min 8 9' long. didn't help. got rid of the factory antennas and got a heil coil. still no help. had it looked over at a cb shop (was fresh out of box should have been ok; but one never knows any more) cb was fine. have calibrated it. swr one one and 40 are 1.5 on 20 is 2.
have a cobra 25 that has never been touched and it will reach out 5 miles... considering throwing the 29 in nearest trash can
so i'm stumped and asking for advice. thanx

I'll gladly take that 29 if you plan to throw it in the trash can.

How did you check the SWR's? By using the radios internally built SWR meter? They are notoriously inaccurate. Get a good external SWR meter. And not a junk one from a truck stop either. The Radio Shack SWR meter, p/n 21-534 is a pretty good one.

Also what were the SWR's on the Cobra 25 when used on the same coax and antenna as the 29?

just using the calibration system that came as part of the radio. haven't hooked the 25 up in this truck yet. used it in a different truck. with no issues. might end up having to take it back to a shop and have them go thru the whole works and figure out what is messed up

Get you the external SWR meter I posted the part no. to and use it instead of the one in the radio. Do that first and see where you stand. can you hook the 29 up in a different truck? I'm leaning towards your antenna or coax being the culprit. New doesn't always mean non defective.

On board Radio SWR calibration only zero's "THE RADIO"not your actual SWR
