Well you see how we can't even get people to stop hauling cheap freight. Kinda makes it obvious how likely it is anyone's ever going to get a nationwide truck driver strike going. We can't even get people to refuse loads to California. They wouldn't have those CARB requirements if it meant everyone would simply stop going there!

    G/MAN Thanks this.

I say we need a convoy to capital hill and not just a few trucks several hundred.

I was offered a load for $9,200, yesterday. My rate for that load was $10,000. The shipper would have paid it except for one thing. Another guy came in and offered to take it for $8,500. It wasn't worth it to me. There was deadhead on both ends. Some people should not be allowed in a truck. They have no business sense and haven't a clue as to how to price freight. The bad part is that there were a number of loads that they needed to move and now the rate has been set by the cheap freight hauler. The shipper will now expect other carriers to haul the load at the same rate. I won't haul that load for the rate the other guy did. We don't need to strike. We need to get rid of people like this guy who doesn't know what he is doing. You can't strike against stupidity.

Just like back in the day people said a strike would do no good because they would get the National Guard to deliver the freight.

Where would they put everyone they arrested?

The "Union" declined to participate, yet they were upset when the Independents did not honor their strike.

Unfortunately what would probably happen if everyone went on strike is that the govt would threaten companies with a fat fine per driver. We would all get fired and find a Mexican driving our trucks within a week. What we really need is to replace the corrupt teamster union with a new one that hasn't been corrupted.....yet.

Teamsters do not pull the majority of the freight, so they could not be responsible for the overall decline of the rates. The mega carriers are the ones driving the rates down.

We don't need a union. We need people who understand how to negotiate and run a successful trucking business.

Could be. Seems that the greed that is in the business environment has led business to have little gratitude to the employees that move the freight.

We have seen the way it is without unions, maybe, it is time to return to it and back to the salary limitations that were in effect before Reagan.
