Agreed... not liking what my facebook wall is turning into.... I'm well aware that we have an election coming up... I'm well aware that some of my FB friends have differing political views... but I've explained that if I see a bunch of political or religious messages/posts, I'll make it where I don't see your words..

Same goes here, in Meltom's thread about log violations - no matter how you slice it, you just can't turn that political, unless you're a fool.

Too many variables left unmentioned to make an assessment of this question. Speaking for myself I have no choice but to log a violation as the truck I drive has a XATA unit logging my day for me.

Back in the day when I had a dispatcher I hated I used a violation against him to get extra time off over a weekend. 4 days! He never set me up to do that to him again. Sometimes you gotta use the rules to your favor.

As for getting caught by DOT with a violation, where are you guys running that a violation means you will get caught? Over the last 24 years I've logged many violations and it's just worked out that I've not been pulled into a weigh station during that month and or they never asked to see my logbook. In time the violation is forgotten as time slips past.

Where's your sense of morality on the issue is where I'd have to say the most weight should be when deciding whether or not to show the violation. Would you trip your own mother down a flight of stairs? Or would you be a saint when no one's looking? We all hold ourselves to a differing level of morality in life. Logging your time on a Federally mandated logbook is no different in that it's a reflection of your moral values we're talkin' about. Ask yourself where you stand on that then decide!

"Sometimes you gotta use the rules to your favor."

Doesn't that violate the high morals you speak of?

The eLog takes all the guess work out of it. If you try yo make a false log it creates a huge paper trail. Any entry records your location, or at least the way ours is set up it does.

I'm sorry but I truly wish some of the old timers would weigh in on this truthfully. There's no darn way that your keeping a truthful logbook unless I'm the only one who waits for hours on end to be on or offloaded. In a perfect world I'd drive exactly 11 hrs and sleep a perfect 10 and always smell good and feel clean and well rested but that doesn't happen too often. Never used an E-log but can't see how it benefits the driver.

I can appreciate where you're coming from, but from what I've seen eLogs benefit the driver because the company can no longer force you to run illegal
