Anal you say.Put it on a Bird meter and see what your (or any one else's)48 watt cobra 29 is really doing or how about the average setting on a Dosy meter. There is a reason that CB shops don't show you the power number in average or on a Bird!

You cant put a 102 whip on this truck unless you come up with a custom mount and put it on one side or the other of a 387. You cant put in behind the sleeper because the antenna will have so much reflection your SWR will be threw the roof and not to mention you will be lucky to get out more than a mile or two, been there done that. The only option is the outback mount and a really good antenna if you want to most out of your setup. Or you cant get 2 Wilson 2000 antennas and remove the lower shaft and add a longer whip to it.I have seen this done and even though it is a pain in the butt to get right,it does work.

No aux power and company's truck? Forget adding more amplifiers. Anything approaching 100W needs its own solid power to work properly, not just the lighter socket or 12V terminals.

If the radio has an extra amp built in, why not leave it at that. I think someone said it had an add-on amplifier kit and posted a link to it. If that is so, it should be more than enough to cause all kinds of trouble. Well good luck with the project, post pics!

I would also recommend Ray's CB shop in West Memphis. He is right across the street from Mc Donalds, near the Petro. Hard to diagnose problems from a forum. He will fix you up.

if you have in "fact" been out here 40 yrs as your profile suggest
you as well as anyone with half that amount of time would already know to stay out of Memphis area Cb shops,NPC hack and whack golden screwdrivers.

    On both sides of the river . . . . .

you've got a tough road to hoe finding any class ab linear amplifier in the 200 - 300w category that will not be destroyed with 48 watts of drive, IF that's really what the C29LTD is actually producing.

a well designed two transistor ab linear amplifier works perfectly with the C29LTD when it is OEM stock from the factory.

all i will say is you obviously have never dealt with ray brasher. opinions are like......you know the rest. just dont be so quick to judge someone just because of there location, i too know all the stories about the cb butcher shops all across the country. just dont cut a man down that has been in business for 30+ years just because his shop is in west memphis. just my 1/2 a cents worth.

Think what you will,Ive likely known of him far longer then you ever will
We had our go rounds when he did "exactly" what I told him not to
do when I requested his services on a high end rig.
It was even written on a work receipt before I left the shop.:biggrin_2556:
I got my radio back and he did not get paid, radio was corrected at
Ranger Hill CB,which is where I should have went to begin with.
A Paying customer with specific requests should never be forced into
    some techs opinionated services.

Again, others are now forewarned to keep anything high-end off his bench

FWIW,What Tech doesn't declare their experience as being 25-30yrs?(all of them do)

    My ¼ worth

""IF" that 29 is swinging 48w's, to run most Amps without burning everything up right out of the box, you would need your 29 to just be DK'ing a couple of watts"

and then you can use the wrong class amplifier behind it. if anyone has to modify a cb transmitter to behave in this fashion to operate with an amplifier then you're using the wrong class amplifier and the one doing this to your radio is no technician.

You are right except for Ray. He is very good. Was at another shop just over the line in MS for years. He knows what he is doing. I personally have never used him, but know a couple hundred drivers who swear by him, plus a tech I do know and use says is work is high quality. I don't care how good you are or what you do, there will always be a few folks you can't please and that will talk bad about you.

There is also a little CB shop in Harrison, AR, on U.S. 65 that is exceptional. Old school guy that has been doing it for about 40 years. Will do what he says and stands behind what he does. Not many of them left anymore.
