Hey I just sold my general lee to buy a better radio. The Magnum Raptor looks like a hell of a deal ( almost too good to be true ) to my eyes anyways. Im just getting into cb stuff recently so there may be stuff I dont know about. But from what I hear the more watts the farther your gonna be able to talk. And For 80 watts this radio seems like a steal compared to other radio with that wattage.. Ive already watched the video online about it but it doesnt show good or bad points really. Anyone know anything about this radio or tried it yet?

This is only partially true. While watts can and will help you talk farther to some extent, a good antenna that is well tuned with a low SWR will yield far more gains than more power any day.

80 watts on any band is more than enough ...... Remember the earth is curving away from you ....

MOST " EXPORTS " are OK what you pay for in most radios is the RECEIVER since to build one right can get a bit pricey..... A better cleaner transmiter again increases the price but for CB/Trucking use few would care.

I run under 100 watts on most bands to me more is just not needed.

This is a typical 100 watt HAM radio ......

What is it that appeals to you with that Magnum ?
There are other forums that have done a swell job of picking that POS apart
which will certainly expedite an early market demise.

    Radio's are just like Hot-Rods,speed is $$$$
    As with radio's.watts = $$$$
Anything under 100 pep watts are mere popcorn farts
    concerning 18 wheel mobiles.
Magnums choice to drop a turd in the punch bowl will be their downfall
YET AGAIN in less then 5 yrs

    Lets see POS's like Ft-1,000, FT-950, FT-450, TS-2000 and IC-706MK2G

Since they only run 100 watts you would not want to own one :biggrin_25514:

    Wrong,I have a (perfect)FT-950 I picked up 2 yrs ago for a smooth $500 dollar bill
sits on the same station desk with a few of our other toys.

Thats neither here nor there, this is a CB Forum and I will remain OT.

I had a 950 here for 3 days to see if it was a replacement for my TS-2000 ... The TS-2000 did as well as it and much better in 146.520 and 446.000 MHZ

The Magnums are a pain to work on. The other problem is they have mosfet type transistors. Mosfets will not take much abuse from less than perfect SWR. Make sure your radio is hooked to a good antenna. Also, if who ever sets it up doesn't know what they are doing, it won't live long either. Saw a radio sent from one of the well known internet cb sales shops and they had set the dead key so high the radio was a splattering, over driven, garbled piece of junk!!!!! I would be surprised if your Magnum last very long before needing some type of repair. But, if set up right with a good antenna, it will work very well for however long it lasts.

You are comparing apples v. oranges here aren't you? I'm talking these new Magnum export radios....... Are you just on here to be contrary??? Your old Magnums don't have fets for finals. They aren't the same radio. And you know that!
