You are driving Interstate Rules. The FREIGHT is originated in one State and delivered in a different State, and the same applies to the return trip.

The fact that you drive a day cab is all there needs to be said....you don't have a sleeper, therefore you can't show a sleeper on your log! With a day cab...even when you pull over to "take a nap"....you are at the wheel and would be on Line 4, On Duty NOT Driving....no sleeper! So as you put it in your opening post, you use lines 1 (Off Duty), 3 (Driving), and 4 (Off Duty Not Driving)....and your return to base going home leaves no choice but Line 4.

The rules and Regs, though written to appear directed at the driver, actually regard the freight and it's origin and destination. The freight will determine local (100 mile radius rules) or OTR (Interstate rules).

Don't let them try and tell you that you can use the 16 hour - 1 day rule. Or that since you are in a day cab and return home every night, that your log can use the 80 hour CA rule. NOT WITH INTERSTATE FREIGHT!
