My son is a volunteer firefighter here in NJ and would love to go fulltime w/ that but w/ budget cuts etc, he can't even get a job w/ DPW driving a recycling truck. For all of his late night early morning calls he gets a check for $750 per year, but he's not in it for the money. The comraderee and thrill you get of fighting them fires is what keeps him going plus he likes ripping holes in walls and venting roofs w/ a chainsaw;plus the beer lol.
Anyone been hurt at work???

Well off to see the next doctor... I hope this all ends soon. I am getting tired of driving all over the place to see doctors that don't seem to agree with oneanother. I just want to get fixed and get back to work.
mtnMoma Thanks this. -
Hoping to hear good news!

My son had same day surgery for a ruptured disc. Back to work in 2 months (light duty) Pain is gone and no side effects.Do the surgery and get it over with.

Going for surgery on July 7th. Can't wait to get it over with and get back to work. Although not real sure if it is going to be with Roehl, the games have begun, and they are really stupid. They started be cancelling my health insurance after I sent in the money to pay for it. Now I have to "volunteer" at a local hospital for six hours everyday, because I was released for "light duty." I'm not sure pushing a 500 pounder in a wheel chair is light duty... All I ever wanted was to get fixed and get back to work. I have known what is wrong now for two months, but have been jumping through hoops going to this doctor and that too make sure that I really need surgery. If I had had the surgery when they found out I needed it, I would be going back to work the begining of July, now it will be September sometime, I don't understand. What is the goal of workmans comp, to get you back to work, or keep you off from work?
-
I work for a Board of Ed ;we have one guy who's been recieving Workman's comp for one year, another close to two years;and at least 3 more that have "developed" job related injuries when they learned they were slated for termination(as long as you're on workman's comp you can't be terminated)Bear in mind that we only have 52 full timers in our maintenance department. I can't blame the school board for outsourcing (privatizing) all of us . These guys are killing the goose that laid the golden egg.I've only been out of work for 3 months in 35 years ,due to surgery and couldn't wait to get back to work, the inactivity was making me nuts. You have to blame the workman comp doctor that allows these guys to stay out when they really could be back at work, but I guess he is afraid of lawsuits if he sends them back to soon and they re injure themselves.
-
DDude first thing first. Workers comp is really to compensate you when you are injured on the job. I realize you know this, but unfortunately its been abused so excessively that now it has to be proven you are truly injured.
I agree if you are pushing people around the hospital and it bothers your back then you should not do it.
you should be back in time to collect on my 120000 miles step. If I'm still here lol.
Having a typical Roehl day as of lately. I'm 5 minutes from home been waiting for 2 hours to relay to a diver that was, "tracking" an hour away. Lol. He was doing a 34. Because they had another driver relaying my load to him, but no one explained that to any of us. So when I mentioned canada to the first one he called and got taken off. So I sat waiting for the guy that was coming. He finally woke up and called me. He now is on his way here. Can I get detention for relay? Lol Prolly not at Roehl.
happy father's day. -
So the surgery is finally done, had to wait til the 22nd for it to happen, but it is done, and I am back home. Things are feeling better, now I just need to heal. I am hoping for a troublefree return to Roehl. I am looking forward to getting back to it again. As for workmans comp, I know it has been abused, and it is a slow process. Knowing that now, I wish I would have just had the surgery done and let the insurance companies fight it out, I would have been back by now. It has been nice being home with family, and I am going to get to come back just as the weather turns crappy.
mtnMoma, Meltom and thelastrebel Thank this. -
After the pain meds wear off you still might feel phantom pain signals for awhile. My kid went back to work doing beer delivery 2 months after surgery for a herniated disc,(no light duty)2 months after the surgery.Too much work too soon he ended up losing that job;they were killing him with those full kegs up and down steps. Now he's started training today, dry vans with Swift out of Harrisberg PA.one full year after his surgery. If he makes it through training and gets his own truck ,I'll tell him about that 5th wheel puller. In my son's case the chiropractor sent him for the MRI when he realized the severity of the injury. Thanks to Obamacare he's covered on my insurance till he's 26,just has no dental plan.If he becomes a Swifty he'll take their Dental plan.
Hope all goes well with your recovery;.Talk to the chiropractor about back strengthening exercises. -
I have a whole list of exercises to do every other day to help strengthen the muscles in my neck and upper back... It seems to be helping alot. The doc told me 8 weeks before I can go back to work. The comp doc said it should be 10 to 12 weeks. I just know that sometime before the snow flies I am going back to work. I am also working on getting the rest of my body back into better shape. I got a bit soft pulling curtainside for the last couple of years. Not sure yet what I am going back to, but it won't be flatbed, I done my time on those. Whatever I do, I am going to be heathier doing it.
thelastrebel and mtnMoma Thank this.
