I never signal that it's OK to come back over. As far as I'm concerned you should be at least 100 yards away before I want you in front of me. Doesn't seem to bother anyone. I routinely have drivers pull back in line when they are 25 feet in front of me and then flash their marker lights, "thank you!"
I never say anything, though. I just back off the throttle and give them the space.

Signaling another truck that she's clear to come back over when she's cleared your nose is a courteous thing to do! Just be SURE they have cleared your nose! I usually wait 'til they turn their turn signal on. In inclimate weather it's even MORE important!!! It's HARD to see sometimes in rain, fog, or at night.
NOT signaling is a sign, to me, of one of the new school drivers who weren't taught the old road ways. Courtesy on the road includes asking on the CB, if a driver is ok when he's on the side of the road (it also includes NOT using the shoulder of the road to switch drivers, do logs, take a nap...etc).
Courtesy on the road should be extended to ALL drivers not just those who drive the big rigs.
Here's the one thing drivers do to ME that annoys me to no end:
Just because I'm a woman driver doesn't mean my skills are any less than JoeTrucker's. Be courteous to all fellow drivers, and especially to the women driver. It's HARD enough out here for me. I don't NEED some jerk telling me I should be home having babies (raised 3 tyvm) or asking me on a "date". Driving this big rig was one of the BEST choices I've ever made. My girls were 15, 16, and 18 when I left to go on the road. One is now an attorney, one graduates this coming spring with a degree in plant biology, and one will probably be married this year. I SUPPORTED those girls by DRIVING truck when picking up dollars at Applebees didn't pay for the prom dresses and doc martens anymore!
Be NICE to each other out on that road!!!

really good advice. no one has put it as clearly but it is very good and if the newbes or anyone follows these suggestions it will help them to be a better driver.
