Even if what you say is true, and you aren't being sarcastic, it's irrelevant. Driver comfort equals driver safety. I live in Arizona, and I can guarantee you that in the hot months, sometimes our air conditioner in an insulated home still leaves me uncomfortable and unable to sleep, even when our bill heads toward 300 dollars a month. How much does an accident cost society and a company if a driver gets in an accident due to fatigue because the driver can't sleep due to discomfort? The old tough it out mentality sounds awfully cowboy to me. We're not talking about work, but down time. Most people spend their down time in the 'comfort of their own home'. A drivers home is his sleeper berth while on the road.

" APU's filter the outside air. " I thought they were just little generators?

If you need to idle all the time,
an APU may be right for you.
A little common sense, will cut that idle time way down, and then it is NOT
cost effective.
APU are just the current/temporary solution.
Eventually it will be something else.
Either battery packs, or shore power, and shore power is not very feasable.... -
Share your tips. I'm all for cutting down on idle time if it's common sense that is the answer. I thought of hanging out at my local gas station to cut down on my air conditioning bill, but that doesn't sound like common sense to me. But, seriously, I need to hear the answers for I'm about to embark on the journey...maybe.

By the way, I consider the underpaid status of truckers and the ONLY bonus is free rent and utilities given the fact that the sleeper berth is our apartment.bluebonn Thanks this.

Lets face it,
YOU need to find a company with APU's !!!! -
Tips.........
window screens
fan or fans
even WHERE you park can make a difference........ -
Okay, well that is common sense. Tomorrow I'll shut off my A.C., double my curtains, and get a second fan. But, I do get what you're saying. Might as well get some of those thingies they sell on infomercials that are suppose to tighten up the cracks under doors while you are at it. I've driven before and had two day layovers that weren't my fault.

The direction you park can make a difference. Like parking so the shade of the trailer falls on the back of the cab or park to catch the breeze.
Excepting some places in Arizona, the desert largely cools off at night. I lived in California's Mojave Desert for three years. At night, windows were open and A/C was off. There were times in July and August that an extra blanket was needed.
