Greatwide just lost HUGE amounts of business with Walmart and Tyson. Shaky financially. I hear some guys are going to a more stable company called Titus Transportation based in DFW - does same type of work - grocery store deliveries all miles paid for Kroger and Aldi. You can go to web site at bestdrivers.us or call 888-473-0191

Well, I just finished over a year at GW on their Wal-Mart contract in Terrell, TX. All I can say is I'm very satisfied with the way things have been going for me. It was a bit slow freight wise during Sept and early Oct, but things picked up nicely.

Some folks are having problems, but that is mostly because they just do not want to work when called.

They've instituted some new dispatch programs that are really paying off for some if they work it right such as I have.

All I know is I'm easily paying all my bills ATM and taking home decent checks. My only real complaint is the healthcare benefits could use some serious work. But that is the story throughout this industry. :(

You say this and blame the driver but... ... I talked to some folks last night that are on this dispatch system and they aren't getting to work.. like to the toon of 400 miles and that is working 4 days so far.

Well they may be referring to the last few days, and I will admit since Thanksgiving it has been VERY slow. Unusually slow actually, even the TM states that. It is quite bizarre actually.

However, my comment is based on averages not on the present situation.

On the whole though my statement is true, even if they are not on the new dispatch system, when folks are called, they need to take the best load available, not just decide they want to run short so they can get back home. Which, from my discussions with other drivers seems to be the case.

I may be wrong but that is what I see around here. In this industry you have to be willing to work and sacrifice time to do well. Evaluate your options at the time of dispatch and take what best suits your needs, not your wants unless you can afford to do it.

Perfect example, today when called I was offered several loads, all which were decent. But since today is my Son's 18th birthday I decided that I didn't want to work much today so I could be home this evening for his party. So I took a very short load instead of one that would be what I normally do and pays well. That was my choice, and next week when I get my settlement I will notice it.

Greatwide is not the best place to be in the world, no place is. They have problems just like every other company out there. No company is perfect. For me I've found a good fit and it is working out. If that changes then I'll look someplace else, just like I've done in the past.
