Disagree with you about the mountain comment. A year of driving is much, much better than 1 month when going over mountains in winter. If you think any other way I just can't see you point, do you really want rookies going over mountains on the same roads as you. As with anything the more you do it the more comforatable you become and the easier new challenges will be. I'm not sure why you said what you said but I think it's a good thing that deBoer doesn't do that.

You mean leave for Orientation? Actually, I left deBoer for a real good local job. Nothing against the company but OTR is what it is. The best company in the world couldn't make it great. I still stick by my claim that deBoer has some of the best people in the business working for them. I enjoyed being an employee there, I just couldn't turn down this local job offer. Best of luck to you ellis.

I ran the mountains my first run after about Weeks of school and 20hrs of driving at your local rip off truck driver training school back in 91. I finished school on a Friday and on a Monday I showed up at the KLLM yard in Woodland Ca. Was met by a trainer who threw me the keys to a white 9speed frtshkr cab over and said we are going to pu a load in Watsonville and Salinas Ca and then head to Ga. If you have any questions, wake me up.

Now I-40 ain't I-70 or 90 but I made it and so do many trainees each year.
Many also find out trucking ain't for them when they hit the mountains so when I trained at usx I got out west and ran my trainees in the mountains and in city driving asap. When a trainee on my truck left my truck they were basically prepared to drive any were in the country including across the border. They could also back their trailers day or night drive day or night and not get lost day or night. They had to make it 90 days after they left the truck for me to get my bonus so there was no point in just running them up and down flats in the Midwest for a month and then cutting them lose when they would be running 48.

good ideal big blue I got halfway up the mountains in school due to the fact that we had a pos rental from penske that was loosing power and coughing. I made it down slowly using jake brake and then on the smaller parts only used the service brakes. I got the jist of it and the only thing is that you need to watch your safe speed and be in the proper gear for the grade before you go down. When we got back down we went to penske and got a new truck. The mountain don't scare me the supertruckers do that were flying by me at 55 mph when I was doing 35mph the posted truck speed now I know that you may be able to do that speed but being green I will allways go slower than others just to be safe out there.

deBoer DOES pay for schooling, sending you to the finest PTDI credited public college in the nation (Fox Valley Technical College in lovely Appleton, WI) for four weeks, as well as your hotel. Read my experiences "The secret deBoer letters" (on going at the time of this posting) in the questions for newbies sections.

deBoer paying for schooling makes me nervous for some reason. Seems like very few companies that pay for training are very good. I hope this does not ruin there reputation.

All your records - criminal, driving, and financial - better be spotless if you want to get in with deBoer. They check everything and thoroughly. No infractions on your driving record for five years. I had one four years ago, very minor, and was turned down for their training program. I expect more of the same from the better companies.

Yeah, they are kinda strict about stuff like driving records and criminal history. I know some drivers who have been turned down because of that. Sometimes I think they are a little too strict, but it's probaly for the best.

This is a training company, is micro managed so if u need training there 1 of the 1's to call, but i would ch in2 other larger co's first. you will have better equip. The caliber of drivers will be the same.
