And pull onm the slack adjuster to see if you even a slight amount of free play and you're good to go.

I still adjust my brakes on a weekly status regardless if they need them or not. Since I get home on the weekends I make it as a posttrip for the week inspection.

From an inspectors end, brakes off, wheels chocked, they will pull on the slack adjuster and if it moves more than 1 inch at the pushrod they will consider it out of adjustment. I like around 1/2".

Doing it like you do gets the same results. You know what a 1/4 turn will do. The main thing is to do them all the same so you have even pressure.

Adjusting brakes is easy, but it can be dirty. Yes, I know how to do it, but in order to do be "allowed" to, don't you need some junk certificate or something now?

Companies forbid it. You're suppose to check, but not fix. There's not much they can say about an OO taking care of his own equipment as long as it is right. It's falls under maintenance.

    johnday Thanks this.

I dont think adjusting your brakes falls under the category of "fixing" them. I'm sure not all companies forbid it.

In Alberta, you have to take a course in how to do it otherwise you can's get your CDL.
