And Just like construction, manufacturing, and other industries, the Mexicans will reduce the pay for everyone else in that industry. The working conditions will get even worse (if that is even possible!).
How will the recent Mexico deal affect US trucking jobs?

Here's another thing to consider. ULS diesel is not available in mexico (some in mexico city I heard but not much). So don't expect to be hauling loads into mexico that require you to refuel there if you drive an emissions compliant truck. And those mexican trucks coming across the border will have tanks full of 500+ppm diesel burning it in the us.....Where is the epa on this one?

Cross border works well in Europe because of similar economies. The same with Canada and the US. Mixing a poor economy with a rich one is like adding water to Coke. It just makes the rich one weaker. The DOW dropped almost 1000 points in the last three days.
A recession is inevitable. You better get ready! 12 cents a mile will start to look good.

A G/MAN post that I can agree with!
Let's hope Defazio's bill gets passed. One of the things it does is to stop the DOT from using Highway Trust Fund money to buy the Mexicans EOBRs. -
I appreciate you all taking the time to reply in spite of the political nature of the question. I think the EPA mandate is a good point to investigate. Seems the machine turns a blind eye when it can make money. They're in bed with someone but isn't that always the case?
Also, what's to stop a Mexican trucker from dropping off goods "on his way back to Mexico"? -
The mandate does state the cross border trucking is for international shipping only. Mexican truckers cannot haul domestic shipments in the us and us truckers cannot haul domestic shipments in mexico. origin and delivery must be across the border from each other. But as I said it is not a 2 way street for american drivers as the bulk of us would destroy our engines if we used mexican available fuel. Sure you caan top off at the border and make it what, 300 miles into mexico before you have to turn back.

Breaking down somewhere in rural Mexico is what you would call "a bad day".truckerdave1970 Thanks this.

I understand your sentiment.
I however think since it will make it seamless and most likely easier and cheaper ship to and from Mexico.
It only follows that it will mean more manufactures moving south of the border.
I see more trucking (Mexican predominantly) at the expense of manufacturing.
