Hello all,
I've got a question about "dead heading" I'm sure no one wants to drive an empty truck but are there times where trucks are empty going cross country?
Also are there situations where you drive a load one way and return home. Forgive the ignorance but there is a reason for the silly ?S
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Tim. Welcome to The Truckers Report. You won't find many cases of trucks deadheading all the way across the country, but I'm sure it does happen occasionally. There are still some opportunities for out-and-back trucking that run empty one-way, though. Most of them don't run cross-country, however.

I was in the lowbed and pipeline pipe hauling business for many years and our rates always allowed us to return empty. Even when we ran from Alberta to Alaska we were empty one way. Sometimes 3 trucks would have 1 load the tractor and the orher the trailer and 3 drivers would drive 2 trucks back.

DogKnot and Prairie Boy thank you for the info it is appreciated.
I was trying to figure out how my flight passes can be used to start another career flying to a city and picking up a truck to drive to another, then flying home to work the other job I have. I can compress my workweek to 3 days and the extra time would be spent driving for three. Sounds crazy but I love to drive.
Thanks guys and stay safe,
