Hi my 5th wheel wont lock all the way on my 04 Cascadia. The handle is about halfway in and the jaws arent closed all the way. Do you think I will be OK to run about 75 miles to my companys closest shop?
Thanks
Jed

There is no way I would consider doing this!
Drop the trailer and pull out. Check the fifth wheel to see if something is in the mechanism or if it is bent or broken. Look all around in it and under it.
Then try hooking up again. -
I already tried and I cant find anything wrong with it. I think Im just gonna drive on the shoulder really slow with my flashers on. -
I dont want the trailer to fall off Im gonna crank the landing gear about 3 inches off the ground and get down the road so in case it does fall off it wont fall far. Ive only got 27K lbs of electronics in the box.

If you lose the trailer it's your CDL and job at stake. If someone gets hurt it's your freedom, so I guess it's your choice too.
I'll do more things in a truck that most drivers wouldn't consider and have done them successfully. Still I would not do anything that would endanger others.Friend, MexicoTrucker and trucker_101 Thank this. -
Are you kidding me? I've seen landing gear buckle with someone bumping the side of a trailer. It's illegal to drive down the shoulder anyways.
You're playing with fire. Why do you think you do a pretrip? Call your dispatcher and let them decide what to do.
Most likely one of the rods are bent under the front of the fifth wheel. Have you gone under any high trailers lately?
Have you inspected the kingpin?MexicoTrucker Thanks this. -
No its my first day as a driver on my own, my trainer never let me hook up to a trailer before. He hooked this one too.

Wow!!!! I hope this guy is just trying to rustle our feathers.....cause if not somebody could seriously get hurt.
MexicoTrucker and trucker_101 Thank this. -
