FFE is a good company to start ya off. Yes dogs can be a distraction, but a pet taxi is your best bet while driving. My dog (mini schnauzer) took naturally to the truck when we got her. She instantly learned that she goes when the truck stops. I generally stop 4 times per shift. Food stop couple hours into my shift, lunch stop couple hours after that and a supper stop couple hours before my shift ends and then my final stop for the night.

My wife (just a passenger) and I love our dog and wouldn't give her up for anything. She's a natural trucking dog, took well to the taxi, she goes in it when she gets in trouble for chewing something she shouldn't, and to go to sleep at night. She's got a lot of energy and we let her run it out in the evenings after we shut down, but she still loves to lick during the night :). She protects the truck very well and when we're home she has the whole backyard to herself too. Just realised I am rambling on about pets and not about your company lol. At any rate, It was 2007 when I worked for FFE, but they were pretty good (6/10), no company is perfect and every one will give you some sort of bs to put up with. It's just a matter of patience and determination.

    Good luck out there,

    Rooster

So you drive out your 11 hour shift without stopping, only fuel before or after your shift? And then you just eat one big meal a day? Sounds pretty unhealthy to me. I prefer my health. Multiple small meals is much healthier than one big one. So yes, I stop 3 times during my shift and at the end of my shift for 4 total stops in the day.

In the apu air conditioned truck.
Why not just quit arguing. You've proven that you're one of those Mr Negativity drivers that isn't happy with or about anything. Just because you're unhappy, try not to make everyone else miserable. Also, try downloading a little common sense while you're at it.

I LOVE dogs. Even the ones that FART in the truck. You need a warning on the driver's door that says "Beware of farting dog"

Good for you for wanting to take your dog along! You might be owner operator material some day:) Anyway, the best truck dog I ever had was Dancer. She would lay in the bunk or on the floor most of the time, but sometimes if we were in traffic or going slow, she'd be on the jump seat. I taught her to duck on cue when I had to look at the mirror - and she was flawless at it. One day, I backed in to a dock and I didn't have to ask her, she ducked as soon as I hit reverse!!! That one was part Border Collie, so no wonder she caught on so fast, but it made me proud to be her mom. Believe it or not, now I'm in my 60's and guess what I do instead of trucking? I'm a dog trainer;-)

Leave FIDO at home until you get some miles behind you. Lots to do / learn and your time is limited .
