Sharon, check out Mays DAC report section on the forums too there is some good information there as well. Good to hear your BF has someone that is as supporting as you. It's hard for our significant others while we are away and hard on us being away from you as well.

Hello, Clutch Here! Sorry It's been so long since my last post. :biggrin_25518:A little background. Those that have read from the beginning might remember that I owned a Radio Station in Wyoming. Well, My wife and I finally sold it in April of this year. I spent most of March and April dealing with all of the details in getting that sale done, and didn't have time to post while driviing. Also, once the station saLe was final, I had to start looking for another job. :biggrin_2555:

Don't get me wrong, I was happy at May. BUT...... Their insurance sucked the big one.! :biggrin_25513:I've got a wife and three kids. May's insurance caps out at 50,000 lifetime benefits. Go into the ICU and you've killed your insurance. So, with our radio station insurance about to run out, I needed to switch companies.

    Clutch....continued next!

So, after much research, and talking to recruiters at Kinight, Conway, Interstate, SRF, and others, I've decided to switch to WEL Companies.:biggrin_2554:

I initially tried to catch on with Crete, but was turned down for my trailer door incident mentiond earlier. GRRR!:biggrin_25522:

So, I kept looking, and came across WEL. They're based in De Pere, Wisconsin. Their insurance is top notch, all of their trucks have APUs, they allow dogs, and their rider program is great! I'm currently at orientation here in Wisconson, and will start a new thread soon. Look for a thread titled "May to WEL Companies.":biggrin_2559:

So far all seems good. I will post on this new thread about my experiences, just as I did with May. There isn't alot out there on WEL, and I think a new thread could help. Thanks to all who read my stuff thus far, and I hope you'll continue to follow me as I switch to WEL. All The Best, and Happy Driving!:biggrin_25514:

    Clutch!

Was wondering how WEL is working for ya, I drove for them back in '91 '92 and as the majority of there lanes were east coast and south, they do run west, but when i drove for them, they where on a percentage and i starved running west for them. Was wondering why you did not check out JBS, they are a lot closer to you. Hope WEL works well for you.

Words of advice for the prospective May driver:

    1. Stay away from the corporate HQ. The yard there is brutal. I never got away without them trying to tear my truck apart. That is the one in Salem (Brooks). Make any excuse you can not to go there. Payette isn't bad, and Denver is OK. Denver is muddy and the trainers stare at you while you try to drop and hook but just ignore them, GOAL, and move on. The worst thing about Denver is the whole Coors thing. They will rook you into picking up trailers and dropping them at the Denver yard, it takes all day, they will try to pay you miles...think about 8 bucks for a day's work...just make the best of it.
    2. Be ready for repowers. They shift loads to the fastest truck (teams) a lot.
    3. Get used to 62 MPH. The cruise control don't work at night, so try to run in the daytime.
    4. May is not a bad company. They care about thier drivers. I worked there a year, got around 2800 miles per week, got stranded maybe twice. The only BS thing they did to me was sell the truck I was in TWICE. Just when I got settled in, they would QC me and say: drive to Brooks, get a new truck. But not a new one, a half beat up Pete with 450k on it. Oh well.
    5. Don't let anyone screw with you, stand your ground. You could do WAY worse than May, the only reason I quit is they do a lot of Coast to Coast and Southwest regional and I live in Florida.
    6. Good Luck, God Bless, and post your status as often as you can!! Oh yeah.. the Layton yard is cool, it's the only one with a decent truck wash and I used to make sure I cruised thru there once a month at least to knock the dust off.....

Philly, I'm looking for a good company to drive for out of florida. I'm in the Pensacola area and am thinking about Davis Express because of their Publix haul and they are in this area a lot. How about you?

I went with Arnold, mostly cause they have a Jax terminal. I don't really care who owns them or what everyone thinks about it as long as I can get miles. There aint no perfect company driver job. I've heard good things about Davis. They have KW T650's/700's and a few of the heavy haul T800's for thier specialized division...They are in Starke, not too far from Macclenny/Baldwin. Good luck with your job search- a lot of the N.E. Florida companies use O/O's so the pickings are a little slim...Just beware what you read in the 'bad' forum; depending on who you ask every company is the 'worst ever'. If you read these posts, you'll notice a trend: an abandoned truck, broken back, failed drug test, family emergency, dog ate the quallcomm etc. Bad news spreads fast but for every sob story someone is loving the company, but too busy DRIVING to talk about it lol....peace.

Coolhand: why not May? They are a little selective but a great company. I just got tired of driving to Portland OR over and over..but I regularly got huge runs, 3,000 miles no joke. They will send you from Morristown NJ to Belleview WA no problem, and then back to Leesburg...good miles!

Philly, I have looked at May a lot. My brother in law drove for them a few years ago and liked it. He went O/O after a while and now does well driving from Seattle to Fairbanks. I like the miles they run too. I know they have a office in Pensacola, how often do they run through there? I have always been a Pete guy so that is something i like as well.
