Hey everybody, just joined the forum. I am preparing to attend CDL school this month and will finish in early November. Not really ready to do the whole OTR thing yet but do not want to limit my self to a local company yet. I do intend on trying the OTR thing at one point but would like to get a little more experience. I was thinking of looking into a more regional type or runs to start out. I live in Tampa and am looking for info on companies that hire out of Tampa and run regional routes. Any info would be appreciated.

FL is probably the toughest state to get hired out of period. Regional and local jobs go to those with experience, aka those that have been OTR and have paid there dues. Going and getting your CDL and expecting a regional job from the start will only lead to disappointment. When I started 11 years ago I had to leave a car at the terminal in Chatt, TN and then drive to Orlando to get home when I wanted and ON TIME. I then moved to PA for a good regional gig, then got my own authority and moved back. For many years during the slow season, I would fly BWI-MCO on Airtran for 200 rt as it was cheaper than deadheading out of FL to ATL or Savannah. Good luck.

There are some decent regional gigs in florida, just depends on what you want.

And how much do you need to make ??? That is a biggy !!

Comcar companies have all kinds of options available.

    Check out their website

    Welcome

I'n from the Tampa Bay area also gotta say its tough here, you gotta call every company you can think of to see if they are hiring out of Florida. Also if they do where.Companies may hire from Florida but only north Florida I-4 and north.Any thing south of I-4 is tough. Also I don't blame you wanting regional but its almost the same as otr but instated of doing all 48,you may do 10-20 states but mostly east to mid east coast runs. All depends on the company.Lot of questions to ask a company and that should be one of the first question to ask.Good luck.
