I've been reading on several different forums and something has me concerned.
I've seen where guys are getting sent home 2-3 days after their arrival because of something in their past. Some guys have owned up to it and others have said the info found out about them was incorrect.
Is there any way to find out about these things before I travel off to a school? I called HireRight to check on my DAC and they told me that nothing was on there.
Where and how do I look to see if there is anything out there, correct or incorrect, about me that would get me sent home? I had a drug paraphernalia(pot) charge over 20 years ago, but I think it was taken off of my record after I completed some classes.
Thanks

You can get a copy of your MVR from your state DMV. As far as criminal background many states have websites where you can check criminal records, which are public records.
IMHO, the only way you will really know what they will find is to pay to have a check done by whoever does the companies check. The thoroughness of criminal background checks vary greatly.
I'll bet most of those being sent home saying they didn't do those things did in fact do them.
As for your charge 20 years ago, I don't know how bad that would hurt your chances. You can be certain if they find out and you lied it will kill your chances.
If they ask, "Have you ever" and you answer no, then you know the consequences. I have never volunteered information and I have never lied either.

Is there any other thing that they check besides the DMV or Criminal History or failing the pee test at the orientation that is weeding people out? -
You seem awfully concerned about this. Perhaps you need to sit down and ask yourself if you have any REASON for this concern. If you really do not, then all you're doing is "borrowing trouble." If there is reason for concern, then you need to be upfront about it with your school and prospective employer.
One more thing to remember. The school makes money on you. They will not check your background nearly as well as most employers will.notarps4me Thanks this. -
One guy in my class got sent home. He had a couple back surgeries and a knee surgery. What he didn't tell them was the knee injury was a result of working as a mechanic for another trucking company. He wound up sueing the company. I guess this was enough for the company sponsoring his schooling to send him home as unemployable.

If you lie on the application and they find out then YES you're gone. Just answer all the questions truthfully and you shouldn't have any problems. 20 years ago was a long time and it shouldn't hold you up unless you lie about it.
