I've seen guys get out of impeding traffic tickets by saying that no one would let them over except for the truck that was on his right. HAHA. It's a bad situation, I've seen four wheelers bounce off other traffic because they where still trying to pass as the barrels where coming in.

This here 4-wheeler does this too, though I don't have 80,000 pounds to back it up. Just good insurance. Yes in Pennsylvania you are SUPPOSED to use both lanes to the merge point. In practice, it just doesn't work that way.

Its just totally ridiculous in my opinion that people can not understand how to merge. There is plenty of warning that a lane is closing so there is plenty of time to get in line and make things run smoothly. Instead idiots got to race up to the last minute to jam everything up.

Its simple common sense. Take a funnel and pour marbles in slowly and uniformly and they slide through. Dump them in, and waaalaaa, its a friggin' mess!

But people will never understand common sense. All they know is that they are in too much of a hurry and will try anything to get ahead of that truck or other vehicle. Why would they merge behind another moving vehicle and keep things moving smoothly, when they can race up the the barracade and try forcing themselves in causing traffic to stop so they can squeeze in.

I just love it when there is someone behind me and they pull out to try and get around then get held up and end up even farther back then they would be if they just stayed put. They really get pissed when I don't back off to let them back in. They will have their front pumper out so far that I have to move over slightly so that I don't take it off. They give me the one finger wave and I just wave back with the same jesture.

When they see the "merge" sign then they should have their blinker on and be preparing to merge at the safest possible time.

That's the whole reason we block the lanes off. If things are running smoothly, we don't have to. But if you see the lanes blocked, it's because people were rushing up there, forcing themselves in, and causing a huge slowdown. When people are doing that by the hundreds, the only way to get through is to block them off and force them in line with everyone else. That way, we can all get through and continue on down the road, trucks and 4 wheelers alike.

You see this all the time up and down the QEW in ontario, its always about 20kmph every morning and evening and everyone likes to fly to the end of onramps and squeeze in at the end, or use onramps as passing lanes when they are already on the highway, since there is a nice cement wall right on the edge of these onramps u see trucks straddling the lanes all the time effectivly blocking these idiots from pulling these moves. and every once and a while when ur lucky u see a cop come flying up from the shadows of the overpass and nail the guy now angrilly honking and swerving around the back of the truck.

I do it all the time unless I see an LEO or get next to someone else doing it and let them know I will let them in when the time comes...

Yeah, this happens everyday on the Illinois/Wisconsin border on I-94. Southbound it goes from 4 lanes to 2, and Northbound 3 to 2.

Thankfully on the Southbound side, you can detour off of exit 347 and go around it.

Happens all the time, signs that say "right 2 lane closed 3 mile" and there are those cars driving right up along side the flashing merge arrows.

Another point, coming out of Chicago where 90/94 split coming out of Chicago going northbound, people in the rightmost lane for I-90 will cut out into the leftmost I-94 lane, then try to cut back in at the exact point where the two expressways split.

This will sometimes cause the cars going down the leftmost lane for I-94 to swerve into the middle I-94 lane unexpectedly. It's just an accident waiting to happen, which I'm sure it does.

I do this as well not all the time and usually only in construction or accident situations not if its in an exit lane even though its apparent that the peoples lives that speed passed you in the exit only lane to cut back over obviously have more important lives but no one can decipher who is exiting and who is just being an ### so you just gotta let it go:biggrin_2553:

it just makes the jam longer...no matter how you slice it..that 1/2 mile gap you leave goes to the end of the line...making the line longer....your just a rolling road block ...now the merge is behind you ...the same thing is still happening...your not helping..... lol egomaniacs .and if you think you are helping.then the ..next time you do,,, just look back and see how well you helped out the traffic jam.i bet it will all be going smooth .
