@ Husker: I was in Ottumwa. I delivered this morning and I'm home now...and my 2 month old is really mad that I'm the one picking him out of the crib and not mom. He's giving me the "Who in the hell are you?!?" look.

Yes, I've been to Roundy's in Point. They're just as slow. I think it's institutional with them...just ####ey organization...however up at Point, they're usually a little more pleasant. Oconomowoc is famous (at least with me) for surly attitudes and plain old rudeness.

Of course, Ocono is the place that threw an extra stop on a load and the only way I knew about it was because somebody had scribbled "One for 8803" on the bottom of the load sheet...and I was already 2 hours behind because they just couldn't finish loading the trailer. Oy. That's a long story, and it comes from my last job. I'm just tickled pink now that I never ever have to take a load out of that place again.

I have two PM's I owe a reply on. I will do that tonight. In the meantime, can anyone tell me if I can park at or near the Big Lots DC in Columbus?

bbecthel were you on I81 in Harrisburg sunday evening around 1900?

I put in an application and I talked to Tim but I have a few questions for you guys especially the guys out of the waynesboro terminal

Are you guys home every weekend/for your 34 restart?

If the loads are available will dispatch offer you a choice? In other words will they allow you to choose between a midwest and a northeast load? Also when you empty out in the midwest do they always load you for back east? How often do you guys get offered loads going to the west coast/pacific northwest?

Do they allow you to have your own cb and antennas? Sirius radio? Inverters if the shop installs them?

I think thats it I've been following this thread since last winter thanks for the info guys. Be safe

Others will answer, but I'll start. The waynesboro guys can be even more specific.

It depends a little bit on where you live, but by and large, yes. Unless you want to stay out longer. I haven't been here long, but I've already been pleasantly surprised at how responsive all three offices are at respecting your desire to get home.
Yes. I've had both Sheldon and Waynesboro offer me multiple choices when choices are available.

I'll let the long timers answer this one. I'm in Denver right now, which is my first time west of (roughly) I-29 since I started.

CBs and antennas, yes. Sirius radio...I don't know about anybody else, but my truck has it built in (and working)...watch it get shut off tomorrow...heh heh.
Inverters the shop in Sheldon will install. Make sure you have 10 or 12 ft of cable for it, and they limit the wattage to 1000w (continuous).

That's what I've got. Now I'll step aside and let my senior coworkers correct me. All the best!

    jellybean,
I run out of the Waynesboro office and if you run the northeast, yes you will do your 34 or so on the weekend. I will agree with Saienga on the choice of loads, they say they're not forced dispatch and I'll agree. Good luck.

    Be safe all

All of you guys are making me consider driving for Van Wyk. This sounds like a laid back, easy going place. I, myself, have a few questions if I may?
-Are you guys given plenty of time to get to where you are going?
-Are the trucks equipped with any type of ant-idle device?
-do you find yourself waiting for long periods of time at shippers or receivers?

Thanks in advance. I don't mean to be a pain with my questions.

JellyBean. I was on 81 in Harrisburg around 2200 Sunday, but I was in my car. I take it you didn't spot me in a four wheeler? Haha.

TD Driver, are we given plenty of time? Rrely plenty of time. Enough time? Yes, with rare exceptions. You will need to be creative at times and think on your feet running your elog here. This is especially true of the northeast lanes. We are always sneaking to Cisco from "super secret" parking spots in the morning to stay off the clock.

No anti idle other than the factory default 3, 5, whatever minute shutdown. Easily defeated by bumping on the cruise fast idle. Keep your idle in check though and expect about $100 a week take home bonus.

No. We have a few bad apples, and history tells me I'll probably be dealing with one of them tomorrow, but very rarely will you sit anywhere more than 3 hours.

if you leave monday and run two loads out of front royal more than likely you'll be back friday afternoon/night and on rare occasions thursday night, but be prepared to be ready to go sunday afternoon... if you leave out on sunday usually if nothing goes wrong your run 3 loads in between front royal and points north and get in late friday night to saturday morning and usually wont bother you until monday morning....

and loads that go out west is tricky!! the best i've ever done was leave out sunday and got back in friday night, and there's been times where i've left out monday and didn't get back in until the follow monday....all because of waiting on tyson loads and other things.. but out of waynesboro your not going to spend no more than 7 days out if its up to you

actually if you let cory or josh know they will keep you in a desired area unless sysco is really short on trucks, on the east coast thats there top priority!!!!! but not many loads go out to the west coast/pacific out of waynesboro......

and they way it goes on midwest trips is unless you get an load that takes you all the way out to sioux falls, sioux city, or any points in west of I-35 in Minnesota usually you'll pull a load to some point in Chicago, points in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and even Ohio and get a reload out of one of those areas heading to Sioux Falls, Sioux City, or Some Point In Western Iowa....majority of the time they are dry loads ranging from seeds to soda's...

yes, just with a kenworth your going to have to use the factory coax unless you want to tear through #### to put your own in but yeah just make sure you put back in the cb and the antennas when you leave for another truck.... they come with factory cobra 25's and in some cases 29's... and i do know in the Kenworth the Sirius radio is built into the Stereo just you have to pay to have it activated, i'm an XM guy due to a couple of stations not being on Sirius that i listen too so i just got my little receiver on the dash!!!

Saiegna had most of everything covered i just thought i put my two cents in but if you see we are both coming from the same train of thought...
