Starting school August 15th at the Witte Bros. driving school in Troy, MO.
If anyone is green, it is me. I barely know how to drive my manual shift car much less a Semi, but I am eager to learn.
Looking forward to learning as much as I can about the job so that I can be a great asset to the company.
I'm 28 years old and have not had much luck with a career. Even having an associate's degree doesn't help me much.
I currently work at Walmart and my performance improves as the day approaches when I can say goodbye to that job and start earning my wage on the road.
Hope to see many of you out there real soon. -
Don't worry about MG. Some people learn double clutching and shifting better if they've had no experience at all shifting a car.
Good luck to you! -
Good point, I've been driving standard shift cars for over 20 years and it made it hard for me to learn some of the truck shifting skills. Downshifting primarily. However, that's not a real concern at the moment since after two days at orientation, I realized that the first 6 months OTR (minimum)with an unknown partner is very likely to bump me past my own particular limit of stress tolerance. So I told them this morning, "thanks for everything, but I'm heading home." Easier to cut ties now before I become an actual employee. For those of you considering Schneider, don't let this put you off. It wasn't anything they did, it was me. As both my trainer and his boss told me today, "it isn't for everyone."
If I should happen to luck into a local driving job without prior experience, I'll let you know.
Good luck!

Dude, I'm surprised you bailed.

Trust me, I didn't want to. I tried to keep positive, but in the morning I would wake up with a feeling of dread thinking about the road ahead. It might not have been as bad as I imagined, but that's just the way I am. Unfortunately it wasn't any picnic either going home to an angry wife after spending over $3000 and then not being able to follow through with my plan. Sucks.
