Please pick a term and stay with it...sidechain??...but then you used the correct term...rail...! Most of the rookies who might want to know are probably confused enough without mis-mashing your terms. Not a good idea to apply chains when tires are spinning...can wrap up around the axle...then what you gonna do?
Why would anybody cut slack out of a set of chains? Makes no sense as tires wear down, so the chains apply looser, then you cut them down so they are tight? That is what the adjusters and extra connector links are for...anybody who wants to use 3-railers be my guest...hard on the back, to apply them correctly you have to drop the trailer and pull out from under...plus when they get twisted...well have fun next summer on your days off untwisting them!![]()

Either sidechain or rail is correct. You are right about using one term and sticking to it. What I meant by spinning is when you are stuck to where you can't move forward or backward. Sorry for the confusion.

chains?not in my vocabulary

Not to be argumentative, but...

I only ever use triples on the drives and I have thrown chains on lots and lots (sometimes several times a day) and I have never dropped a trailer to do so.
My preference for putting on triples is to pick them up by the middle rail, put them over the outside dual and then throw the inside rail over the inside dual. Easy peasy. -
Awwww, nobody noticed the downshift...... grrrrrind clunk. Must be a safety guy or a dispatcher.
