Week #10
July 27th - Aug 2nd
This week continues with the load from Mazonome, WI to Beaverton, OR. Wednesday morning I find myself starting out in Beach, ND at the Flying J and go into Billings to fuel the truck. I end the day at the Pilot outside Missoula, MT. Another wonderful night in Montana. 43 degrees overnight. I have been lucky to be up north this summer. Almost all summer long. Thursday I head into Troutdale, OR and spend the night at Loves. I love coming here since there is a Shari's restaurant there. Excellent pieFriday morning I make my way to my delivery and find myself in a bad spot due to bad directions. I call the customer, no answer. I call the broker for directions, "You guys deliver for us there all the time." I find another phone number online and call and finally get a person who transfers me over to another voice mail. At this point I am getting frustrated. Big time. I look up where I am at on google maps and find there is no warehouse or anything on that side of the street. I scrolled up just a bit and see there is a building with a few docks on the other side of the street blocked by the overpass. So, out of desperation, I go over there and lo and behold there is my customer. I was to turn right instead of left at that light. So I go and check in and send in updated directions. Letting them know that their current directions get you stuck on a dead end street in a residential area. Fun times. As I was sitting there getting unloaded, I get a pre-plan to pick up a load in Salem, OR headed to Illinois. I am to drop it in Layton, UT due to home time coming up.
After I am unloaded I head down the road to Brooks for lunch. I don't have to pick up until 1500. After lunch I make my way to Norpac in Salem and check in 2 hours early. The lady asks "Is your refer pre-cooled?" Of course it is! I always do that. Well, when I remember. So I get in a dock 2 hours early and out of there before my appointment time. Nice. I get to Brooks, scale and fuel. I end up getting back up to the Troutdale Loves and spend the night. More pie for me! The next day I get to Heyburn, ID and stay at the Loves there. Sunday morning I make my way to Layton and drop my trailer. I end up sitting the rest of the day waiting on a load to get me back to Denver for my home time. Monday morning comes and I get a load that is going to Fort Worth, TX that I get to drop in Denver. SO after getting hooked and scaled I make my way across the wonderful state of Wyoming. I stopped in Rawlins at the TA and met up with a previous student for lunch. I then made my way to Denver with a stop at the Pilot to fuel the refer before I drop it. Once I get back to the yard, it is late so I stayed the night and left Tuesday morning for home time.

Hey Efron, glad to read your posts... so if I get this straight you have been driving with may a little over 10 weeks? I used to work for may back in 2006. so if I average your miles your averaging about 2100 miles a week? which before taxes and stuff is a little above $600 a week? I am just trying to find out what I can expect. I also am going to go all 48. I guess it has to do with your relationship with your DM? anyway been a few years but I am very excited about coming back. No wife, no house, no bills...... (that I am paying anyway) any advice would be welcomed..... starting back with roadmaster again on monday...... yes my ####### gave up my cdl a few years back because of a ticket..... NEVER do that.... costing me $3000 to go through school again.

I have been with May for 2.5 years now. I only started my journal when I got into my new truck, 2012 Cascadia #2844.
The miles have been a bit hit and miss the past few months. It all seems to depend on how you set your PTA and a little bit of luck.
I am out of Denver, and have a terrific DM.Civilservant Thanks this. -
Yeah I will be out of layton.... I know there are problems with every trucking company, but i figure with no significant other, no bills so to speak.... I can get out see the country and bank some money at the same time..... I will be looking forward to getting to know all of you.... The first time I only stayed with may for 4 months so I could get on with Knight transportation... Knight is also a good company.. but this time I am not going to jump ship..... SO being with may for 2.5 years you must be pretty happy.... I would love any advice you have.... also..... last time I made the mistake of purchasing all 12 volt stuff.... if I get a 1500 watt inverter, can that run my tv/dvd player, xbox 360, fridge etc.... any advice on creature comforts..
-
oh in addition to my last post... my problem was running this stuff and killing the batteries on the truck..... I plan on getting jumper cables to run from the reefer batteries to the truck batteries while I use this stuff to not drain the batteries... has anyone else tried this...... any advice is welcome.
-
Running a TV and an Xbox or PS3 will drain your batteries down in about an hour or so. That was in my trainers truck some 2,5 years ago.
I only have a 12v fridge and my laptop. I game on my laptop so I don't need a TV or a video game system on board. -
hey
i just went through oreintation in brooks or. ,and am heading out 8/12
they will sell you a 2000w inverter for $250 w/battery protection and install it for free.if you change trucks you can unplug it.
everybody was nice there, everybody in good mood, didn't hear any growling or attitude thing ,no bad impressions.drivers and office all seemed content.only sarcasume i heard was about leasing, barely mentioned.they took us around and introduced us to every single office, truck shop, parts person there.got phone #s for anyone you would need to call.
one guy there was a lease owner at cr england, was in the hole for weeks, his last week he made $1.67
another guy was with covenant and couldn't get paid,a buddy of his called while he was there and hadn't been paid in 3 weeks.
another guy worked for shneider for 3 months, but didn't know how to back up.how can you go to school ,drive 3 months and not be able to back up?
they have a fun little obsticle course, offset backing ,straight line backing, and 45degree,and they encourage you to GOAL,i didn't need to but did anyway.they joked about parallel parking as a useless skill.
well can't wait to get one of them pretty peterbilts[13spd]
really nice hotel[take swimming trunks], good breakfast buffet [free]
they take ya to hometown buffet a couple times [alot of good food] and a nice chinese resterant all free.you don'get paid for oreintation, but you don't really do anything but fill out forms, and learn company policy and qualcom, etc.
well if you have been with them before you know most of this, but i just started typing ,maybe someone will want to know about oreintation but the inverters look good okbycrankyazz and bonbonsron Thank this. -
hey thanks thats all I was trying to find out.... I appreciate you taking the time to tell me whats new at may trucking..... so May will actually sell you an inverter? any info you can give will be great... so are you going to go out with a trainer now or are you about to solo out? congrats by the way
-
They will sell you a 2000w inverter for $250 assuming they have any at the shop you are at. It was tough for a little bit to get one. They will install it no problem.
I still have my 1500w cobra inverter, and they put it in since they did not have any 2000w inverters. I think they put mine in since I had it before they went to the 2000w inverters. I am not totally sure that you can put in an inverter other than theirs though. -
As long as they (the shop guys ) approve your choice of inverter, they will install it. I did not buy mine from them and the shop installed it. It just needs their official OK.
bonbonsron Thanks this.
