Make Recap Tires Illegal

Ha, news travels fast. I think in less than an hr after it happened I got a random text message from a friend with a 379 that says

 

Good thing too. I've noticed a lot of them pete drivers needing new fenders here lately...

You know If you wasn't running 100mph that tire wouldn't have come apart?

 

Well that's the bad part, I wasn't even speeding since I was 3hrs ahead of schedule and for once I wasn't even over 80k. Guess I'm going to go back to speeding while overweight where I'm safe.

That was my thoughts also, same with why all those new aero plastic trucks have 3 piece bumpers. Bad drivers need those.

 

I forwarded this photo to a couple 13 year old kids and asked there expert opinion if this was a photoshoped photo, there answer NO
I then forwarded to a friend who works in a lab (area 51) and ask him to determined what could cause this to happen. His reply was.......If your going to run on the sidewalks put the whole tire on the sidewalk, not just the edge.

 

That's what the tire shop said, then I told him the missing part was the inside and the reply was "oh". LOL

Curbing the inside of the passenger side steer tire is a feat only a company driver could do!

 

I was behind a truck yesterday, and the again today that had their recap come undone and strip off on I40. The one today made me swerve to miss the recap gator that flew down the lane at me bouncing from side to side! To matters worse, he almost took out a motorcycle that had just passed him mere seconds before it went! I think the recaps have become too much of a liability and potential for disaster and death if the correct situation presents itself. I don't think ANY company should run them as they are a product that is inferior and dangerous.

 

I wouldn't run a recap long haul but I do run them now but I run just in ohio(home everynight.) If I was going to go back to long haul they would be coming off quick.

 

Alot of blow-outs are not re caps at all.I dont know of any co that runs caps.Todays recaps are pretty #### good.Ive had 3 blow outs this year all trailer tires.Low psi an extream heat heavy load. virgan tires.

 

You must have that extra special xray vision if you could tell it was a recap and not a virgin tire.

 

I have had a new tire peel the tread off just like a cap. A tire guy told me once that there were just as many virgin tires that would peel the tread off as there were caps. The main reason for tire failure is tire pressure. If you keep the tire pressure then you should increase the life expectancy of your tires.
