You are looking at the truck before it is turned in. When these trucks are turned in the leasing company requirers that they be completely gone over. Walk through a TS and see how many '06 Centuries don't have a nick or ding on them. Very few. But start truck shopping and they all look almost new.

Plus, they are required to maintain them and PROVE it during life of lease.

My only issue with Penske trucks is the ones that I looked at had company specs.

My 2 cents - most fleets plan to liquidate their equipment at or before 500,000 miles which is proven to begin the most costly period of truck ownership. This usually means that their maintenance programs are designed to operate at a minimal cost to get the trucks to the 500k mark and be liquidated. Of course I like OO specs much more than fleets specs. To me comfort and pride in my equipment are important parts of my life as an OO. IMO an owner operator truck with service records is by far the best option when buying a used truck. The other option I like is to buy from PACCAR leasing which have a strict maintenance program and records available. They have many OO spec trucks and financing plans as well. That's where I bought my last truck and never regretted it for a minute. You can't beat a PACCAR product, period. Whatever you do pull oil samples from the engine, transmission and rears and have them analyzed from wear. Samples provide a better picture of a truck's condition than paint, chrome and tires.

I just wonder where the truck dealers get there trucks if not traded in? I have a very good friend that has been an automobile dealer for many years & told me if I could find out he would step in & get one for me wholesale & wouldn't take any profit for himself out of the deal. So I am still looking to get not only a good deal but a good truck that I won't have to worry about something major happening in the first couple of years. Yes I would like to find a o/o that took care of his truck & most do as they had to work hard to pay for it, but not many around on truck lots. So I'm still searching for one.

While auto dealers have auctions they can go to the truck dealers have access to lists of trucks from different wholesale companies. From what I am told it is all done at a distance and transportation to the dealer is arranged.

Thanks to all, Got a heck of a deal on Friday, comapny was going under, cause some gal in the office took off with the checkbook. Bought a 06 International 9400 Eagle, 500hp Cummins ISX, 10 Speed, 518k miles & only need a few minor things need to be done to have it ready to be out there, but took my time & it does pay to wait, bought this truck for way under the going price in Truckpaper & was able to pay cash so no worries about payments :)

I bought a 07 century last year for $37,200. It had 500,000 miles on it with a 515 DET. It was a CRETE truck which they take #### good care of their trucks. I would search for a used CRETE truck. Very clean trucks.

Stick with a detroit. 03 or older. pre emission. everyone has their opinion on their experience with their favorite engine. with detroit,I like it cause m.p.g. is good, but the main thing is they are easy to diagnos & parts are usually available, don't have to wait on special order & downtime can cost more than the price of parts & labor. when I look at my 95' ser 60 compared to the newer model engines, it's like looking at an ole chevy motor compared to a newer one, the older one, I know what I am looking at, the newer one... just open the hood, look around scratch my head & close the hood & call someone.:biggrin_2559:
