Congratulations zaptear. I applied on-line to Pepsi about a month ago for the Transport/Bulk driver position out of Cheverly, MD. for ##### and giggles. I figured a 55 year old white man (no racial pun intended) didn't stand a chance in getting hired. A couple of days later, I get an e-mail from Pepsi telling me that they are reviewing my app. and will let me know of the results in 7-10 days. I didn't think anything of it and basically forgot about it. A week later, I get an e-mail wanting me to come in for an interview. I do the interview a week later and it went well but I still thought I had no chance. Again, another week goes by and I get another e-mail from Pepsi telling me that I am hired by Pepsi on contingency pending the outcome of my physical and drug scree. Did the physical and drug screen last week and should hear something by the end of this week.
I've been flatbedding for years as an OTR driver and love doing that type of work but I have an 11 year old daughter that wants me home even if I have to get a job as a greeter at Wal-Mart, lol.
I have mixed emotions about making this move but the money is...very good and I'll make my daughter happy by being home everyday. Maryland isn't a "Right to Work " state, so I'm required to join the Union (Teamsters) once I get through probation. Something I'm not crazy about joining.
Anyway, good luck to you and you'll be fine. Stay safe.

Congrats on the job! I have been with Pepsi for a couple years and the last year on what we call "Express" (aka bulk). It was the best move I made even though in my region I took a pay cut to switch off side loader... In reality it was only a cut on paper cause they tend to estimate bay routes on the high side. The advice someone posted about 2 liters is SOO true... Its not a question of if but rather WHEN you will dump a pallet of 2 liters(and probably any other sku) Though its harder for bulk drivers than it is for transport drivers... Our pallets are built pallets and even if the load crew does their best they tend to be ALOT less stabled than straights coming out of the bottling facility. Just make sure that you check your load every morning, make sure the pallet count is right and nothing has already tipped over from the loaders parking it. Also take it easy at first....you can't get around with that rig like a bay truck.... I actually pull a 53 ft van on my route but the 48 will still be a big change for ya...

crowhrse - A "Right to Work State" is if a company goes Union, the employee is not required to join that Union and no, the company in question cannot fire you for any reason. Federal and State laws prohibit that.
Maryland is not a "Right To Work State". If you hire on to a Union company, you have to join the Union or forfeit your job...period.
Not my 1st time being a Teamster, so I know what I'm getting into. Not the same benefits as in years past but still much better than most. My problem is that I don't share the same political views as the Leadership of the Union does and don't like my hard earned due's going to some left wing organization that stands against everything I believe in but, you gotta take the bad with the good, I guess.
Hope this helps explain what a "Right To Work State" is.
