Pro Star Eagle: Good or Bad?

Two breeds- drivers that do it because its a job and drivers that do it because they love it.

 

Thats true about the breeds but weather or not you love it or hate it you should do it properly.

I fell into the safety guys good graces on my first day temping at Autozone at the Ontario DC when I was assigned my first truck for my first route. I got the tractor keys and went to my truck...First thing I did was my pretrip, AS ALWAYS before firing her up, if its my first time driving that tractor that day.

The safety guy said that I was the only temp that ever bothered to lift the hood, and my pretrips were the most complete and thorough of even most of his regular drivers. I told him it was just how I do things.

And I cant tell you how many air lines and hoses and fluid levels and bad tires and flat tires and tires with nails and exaust leaks and even a bad clutch, I would usually find the most problems with their equipment, and most of the time BEFORE THE TRUCK LEFT THE YARD all these things I would find and nobody else either cared to write them up or ever noticed.

It takes an extra 10 min in the beginning, but its a 10 min corner that just cant be cut, and pays off 10fold in the long run.

Im not a supertrucker, just doing my job. A regular trucker.

 

One of the first things that I have always done was to raise the hood and check everything.

 

I got a company truck and I know it's got the isx cummins but I couldn't tell you what the horse power rating is.

 

I can remember back in the 70's running along with all the big freight haulers, Trash can, Roadway, and others and back then they didn't even know what engine they had! It used to be a running joke that the big R cars didn't even have a tach, they had a hammer drop down and hit them on the head when it was time to shift. Then you would hear them on the CB talking about their engines, one would say yea I got a red one, and the other would say yea I got a blue one, these blue ones don't run at all LOL.First thing I do when I get a new truck is read everything I can on the engine that's under the hood, at least you run it like it's supposed to be ran.Oh, and on the engine there is a plate that tells what the engine is set at, at least until some bean counter thinks it needs turned down!
