Ok, what if we all went to getting paid hourly, 12 hr shifts, 4 days one week and 3 days the next?

Seriously, more often than not for me, the 34 hr reset makes me more tired unless I am at home because I am stuck at Truck Stop somewhere. If I am inactive, then my brain becomes lazy and it takes a day or two to get back into the swing of things.

But, I guess that's par for the course. A bunch of basic drivers know what's best for all of us big truck drivers. :biggrin_25523:

YES SIR! The 34 kills me during the week...takes another 34 to get back to normal driving.

what they need to do is get a few people ( truckers )that have been out there trucking come up with a new realistic hos or a min hourly pay scale, hell i would even go as far as to have as stringent test for 4 wheelers that we face.

Correct me if I am wrong, but to qualify for a 34 hour restart you can not be in your truck. It must be off duty and there is no where in your truck that is considered off duty.

Combo of off duty and sleeper makes a 34 restart. Myself and thousands of other drivers did/do it all the time.

You are absolutely correct! IT'S THE 14 HOUR RULE!!! Especially with shippers and receivers making us drivers sit and wait, eating up our 14 hours. That is what has caused all the B.S. in the first place. Everything was fine when you could stop the clock while waiting to be loaded/unloaded. And the 34 reset??? I don't know about other drivers but after 34 hours off and sleeping and sleeping some more, I am more than enough rested to safely "hammer down" some more. Doing away with that makes no sense to me at all.
OK, take away the 11 hour rule, but take that 14 hour rule with it!! Thats the one that screwed everything up to begin with.

This is how I will be effected.

I DO drive a full 11 every day unless I get tired and then I make the right decision to pull over and sleep, this does not happen often but does happen.

I log a full 68-70 hours in a 6-7 day period then use a 34 hour restart to get my hours.

ONE WHO DOES RUN LIKE THIS I PERSONALY CAN SAY THE 34 HOUR DOES REFRESH MY BODY AND "ELIMINATES" FATIGUE AND DOES NOT CONTRIBUTE.

    The math
that's 17 hours a week lost losing the 34 hour restart.
    17x4 (4 weeks) is 68 hours
68-8 (8 for pre trip ext..) is 60 hours
    60 x 60mph is 3600 miles
    3600 miles x .40 per mile

IS $1440 LOSS PER MONTH POTENTIALY :biggrin_25516::biggrin_25516::biggrin_25516::biggrin_25516:
    $1440 x 12 months $17280 per year loss

in reality I probably will be losing $900-1200 per month

IT WILL COST ME MORE TO BE AN OVER THE ROAD DRIVER, I WILL NOW MAKE MORE MONEY JUST RUNNING LOCAL DUE TO LIVING EXPENSES BEING AN OTR DRIVER.

Companies will have to pay labor now in order to offset this loss of pay to keep OTR drivers. AS drivers know it cost money to sit and you will be sitting up to 3 days a week now.

Government is screwing the American people big time, first Mexican truckers now they lower our potential pay.

I JUST HOPE AND PREY DRIVERS WILL GET TOGETHER AND DO SOMTHING ABOUT THIS. REMEMBER "WE" (American people) RUN THIS COUNTRY NOT THE GOVERMENT.

I suggest a a 3-4 day protest when and if the new rules come out and effect us as shown above. I am not suggesting a shut down but a slow down. This way even the company drivers can get involved. Simply run the "minimum" speed limit every where and you will slow this country to a crawl. 40-45mph everywhere for 3-4 days and we will be heard (no dates set still in planning)

If we take your low figure of $1200 a month lost and times that by the 3 million truck drivers there are that comes up to $43,200,000,000 (trillion???) times that by 20% tax rate (approx) means the gooberment is jacking themselves out of $8.6 MILLION a year in tax revenue.

    Now thats funny.

I wonder if they've thought of that?
