PAM SUCKS

    Well, this is an interesting thread. I drove for them for 4+ yrs, maybe I can answer a couple of the questions, maybe not.... Why stay that long? My insurance for me and kids including disability was $66 a week. Between vacation pay and safety bonus you get into a cycle of the extra checks that you don't want to break because you are struggling to begin with. Lastly, you don't want to flee to a company that is similar,or worse.....
    I don't know about brokers, but I do know about some customers lost or scaled back. Guest Supply, Colgate Palmolive, Smurfitt Stone, Sonoco, Chrysler, MTD, Pregis to name a few. They seem to be concerned mostly with GM, Trane, Walmart, and linehauls for other carriers....
    Why leave? Since they blended all the companies together, the lack of experience, knowledge, and respect coming from dispatch and planning, became too much..... Ps,., the dedicated is nice,but pays 2 cents less per mile since Jan 2010...

    Yes, I'm quite aware they laid off 400 drivers at the end of 2008. I distinctly remember sitting in New Jersey for six days waiting for a load. Guess I was lucky to survive.

    And why do you think I sound like DM material? Because I was a dispatcher before I started driving? I try to keep an open mind in most situations, which has kept me out of trouble with the office. If a situation comes up where I have to talk to the DM, I give an opinion, he gives an opinion, and we work..TOGETHER.

    And BTW, I plan to work in the office starting in October. Have a nice day.

    I just said "working in the office." I never said anything about being a DM. I believe the theory of putting an ex-driver as a DM, in the company's eyes, would be that the new DM would curry favors to the drivers.

    I want to be "blind" to what drivers get which loads. I want to work in Load Planning, not work a board. I KNOW I don't have the stomach or the nerves to work a DM board.

    I officially wash my hands of this manner. It's obvious I cannot change your mind, just as much as you can't change my mind. Let's just agree to disagree.

    And so we see to some not all.

    1. it`s ok that office personal go home every night but drivers can`t get 2-3 days home with family after 2-3 weeks out. Unless they fight for it.

    2. drivers should sit for hours or days for loads and make a small check. why?

    3. why should Dm,Fm,Fs. not learn what drivers deal with every day so they can do their jobs better. What?


    I could list more but will not get anywhere.

    Just remember who makes your pay. no drivers no money for anyone.

    I know there is a ton of students just waiting to fill the seat and if the owner of the company did not start it or buy the trucks there would not a company. but since there is a company and trucks bottom line is drivers make the pay checks for every one at the company. take care of them and they will take care of you.

    All big companies are forgetting what it is all about. Money,Money,Money is all that matters. I like Money to but I will not screw some one to get it.
    But as we all know it is not going to change any time soon.Just IMO. I could be wrong.

    I had 2800 mile weeks on automotive dedi with them, Que CA to OK city once and back. Light loads too, about 10 - 12k and MT back up due to no dunnage return.

    Yes, good miles, but pay was nothing to write home about - and that was about 8 years ago.

    The pay is well known to be lower than industry average, not uncommon for "training fleets".

    What I don't understand is how the OP would land a dedi route and not live "in line" to get home? On auto, hometime is on you - and how hard you can run to get home and make next appointment. Yes, requesting vacation time might throw you off the run.

    My friend there is a female trainer she is really good trainer, She told me that they just lost 2 female trainers, But they still have I think she said 3
