Anyone familiar with local intermodal for Schneider out of Stockton CA?

Want to know what average pay, miles are like. How the benefits are and what they are like to work for.

    Thank you in advance.

I drive local intermodal in Los Angeles. As far as pay goes I believe L.A. and French Camp are the same: $36.00 per load, $00.25 per mile, plus performance pay (mines $4.00 per load with 1-1/2 years experience). Performance pay is based off of safety, less than 7% over idle, and less than 2% overspeed (anything over 60mph is overspeed). I've been told their average length of haul is around 20-50 miles doing pick ups and deliveries around the Stockton area. Furthest runs are to Red Bluff, CA and Reno, NV. Durring the winter it is either feast or famine. This winter was tough. I've had several weeks with only 6-7 loads. Last two weeks I've done 17 so its picking up. Equipment can be rough. For the most part SNI does not do body work. Trucks run well though. Empty trailers can be tough to come by at times. I've spent upwards of 2-1/2 hours searching for an empty trailer. When it rains 50% of them leak. Overall I enjoy my job with SNI. My biggest problem is not being payed per hour. I hope this helps. :biggrin_255:

Seems like here its 27c a mile $31 a load, thats what the recruiter told me anyways, however i guess i should take that with a pinch of salt.

Anyway I'm going ahead with a position in Stockton, talked to a driver last week who's been at it 5 years and he was very happy. He also said new trucks are on the way (though probably not for newbies), was also wondering if priority of loads is by seniority or if everyone gets a fair crack?

Have a phone interview tomorrow and then next step is interview in French Camp, any more info greatly appreciated.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. The difference in pay probably relates to cost of living. 31 dollars per load is still good. Plus you'll eventually have performance pay added to that. New trucks are assigned based on seniority and safety. Loads are dispatched evenly and not by seniority. My advise when you start is to take the good with the good. There will be bad weeks, but they are outweighed by the good weeks imo. How are things looking? Have you started yet?

Personally i wouldn't trust this R.Rodriguez guy as far as i could throw him!!!!!!!!!! which isn't far being that i cant lift him!!!!!!!!!!!

I just started with Schneider Truck Rail out of the French Camp operating center(stockton) our area of operation is like a giant square, if you look at a map our coverage goes all the way north to Red Bluff, CA where we deliver and then usually pick up at eco-shell in Corning, CA for a backhaul. be careful of the empty's you get out of that walmart i was just there, we had 7 empty's in the pool there. 1 flat tire, 1 no tread tire, 2 the California BIT Inspections were up.

the furthest east we go is around the Fernley, NV area to a walmart out there. during the months between November-February Schneider operating center in French camp, CA pays an extra .06cpm for going over Donner summit doesn't matter if you chain or not you still get the extra pay.

the furthest west we go is..... well basically we cover everything west... expect to go to the bay into the downtown area 10+ times a year. some places don't have docks which you may be thankful for since if they did have docks you would have to alley dock into alley's and various other tight spots.

Now the South area. we go all the way to Fresno, CA we share Fresno with the L.A. division of truck rail its split down the middle they cover everything south of the middle of Fresno we cover everything north.

as far as pay you are correct Irish $31 per load and .27cpm your percentage of performance pay is considered under experience, service failure, safety, idle percentage, and over speed percentage. lets say you start August 1st. the way the performance pay system works you will not start to get any bonus until 16days after the beginning of the next fiscal quarter. so since you started August 1st your Bonus won't start to pay out until October 16, 2011.

as far as benefits are concerned i do not have medical, dental, or vision thru Schneider(which is a self insured company). i have taken the opportunity to take the accident, critical illness, disability insurance(AFLAC), Voluntary Life Insurance(on top of the $20,000 of coverage that the company gives you for free), and the legal Services. all in all with varying amounts of coverage i'm only having to pay $24.53 per week for all, and the peace of mind that my family will be taken care of if the worst happens.

beings that i have only been working with Schneider truck rail for a total of 5 days now. they keep me busy and the other truck rail drivers are all friendly and willing to help each other out if there are any problems.

Schneider National has implemented a policy for Sleep Apnea. if you are considered obese you will have to travel to southern California for a sleep test. all paid to go down there. if you come up positive you will talk to your DBL(Driver Business Leader)(Driver Manager at other companies). from there they will offer you 2 options you can either go on a payment plan for the $1,500 for the machine which is 104 payments at $15.?? every week or pay the full amount up front.(This policy changed as of 08/09/11) this is kind of a BS move on Schneiders part since last week they weren't making anyone pay for the machines.

if you have any further questions about French Camp, CA Operating Center. please feel free to ask. any orientation questions or Training questions also welcome.

Last time I saw you, you couldn't even pick yourself up out of your seat! In all seriousness, JDT is a good guy with a good head (just keep an eye on your lunch around him :biggrin_25525: ). I switched from local to regional rail. It works better for me. I was commuting 74 miles one way as a local driver. I hope all is well Irish. Give us a shout.

Sleep Apnea, What's that. I haven't slept a good night in 30 years. Up at 10 Am. Running by 11, stop at 4 sleep til 6-7 run til 0300. I weigh 230 and who determines if I'm fat, pleasingly plump or properly proportioned. Thats a load of BS.

    Ok pay is as follows:
    $31 per load
.27 cpm with an extra .06cpm during November-march on loads going into Nevada.
    $10 on empty moves
$10 on ramp pulls(if you pick up at the rail and don't deliver the load and take it to the yard)
$16 per hour detention after initial 2hrs at shipper or receiver granted arrival ontime. If you do everything right there's no if and or buts on this subject payed automatically. U don't have to fight for it.
$25 multi stop first stop and last stop do not count.
All miles paid by home goods(zip code to zip code)
They pay u for extra miles. I.e. you go to a shipper they have no Emptys and u bobtail to another 6 miles away. They add a pickup point into your daily summary and you get whatever the miles would be on that distance zip to zip. Please note each market has their own pay scale this pay scale this will not be the same as other markets. I.e. Chicago Los Angeles etc.

As far as hours we have night and day shifts. You could have a start time of 4am or 12pm it all depends on what you want and what they need but when you get a shift that's what your shift will be till you want it change. It's 5 days a week unless you want to work a 6th day on your Saturday for some extra cash. I have a Saturday - Wednesday with my start time at 0600. I know guys that work Sunday-Thursday and their start time are 0430, 0600, 0830. Once again it all depends on what you want and what they need.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    Plea
