Hi. New to the forum. Very nice forum too.

I will be attending school starting the 6th of august and want someones unbiased opinion.

I'm a little concerned that my D.W.I. that I had 3½ years ago will seriously inhibit my ability to find a job once I obtain my class A CDL. The school I'm attending gave me the names of a few employers that will take a DUI candidate so long as it is over 3 years ago. I contacted the companies and they all inform me that I "should" be fine.

I also have a few misdemeanors from my teen age years. I'm 25 years old now.

On the brighter side I haven't had a ticket in 6 years and haven't been in an accident in 9 years.

Oh yeah, and I have been out of work for 12 months, which is pretty much my first break in employement since I was 14...:biggrin_25524:

Some company "may' give you a chance. They probally won't be the best paying company or have the newest trucks on the road though. You should apply to 10 companies or so and see is interested in you.

It is extremely important that you have no further brushes with the law!!!!
Once you get a job try to stay put for a year or so.

Well...if you get this break keep yourself on the right path so to speak as any other issues that come up will certainly put a halt to any driving job.

GOOD luck to you and Hang in there...

I would think that the 12 months of unemployement would be a bigger red flag than the DWI. But you should be able to find plenty of jobs.

If you find a job please post it in this thread. I have a similar issue with the work history.

The DWI will keep you out of Canada for sure since that is considered a felony in Canada so that is a plus or minus depending on how you look at it. That is the reason most of the big companies so no DWI period since it keeps you from going to Canada. Like the others i would think the unemployment would be the worse of the 2 when it comes to getting a job. Good luck to you and like most have already said try the smaller company's in your local area and see what you can come up with.
