as most of you know im in the market for a truck, and since i cant seem to find a decent 386 pete for under $50k, i have been looking at FL Centurys :biggrin_2553:

Anyhoo i'm not even looking at the ones with Detroits as i have one now and know just how much they suck!

The question is since the only other engine option here is a Cat, which i LOVE to drive but not sure i wanna pay for the fuel for lol. Most are C15's at 435HP....How much can it be SAFELY turned up?:biggrin_2558:

    I'm looking for 500-550HP......

Or anyone have any other ideas for trucks to look at?

most c15 are 475,they can be boosted to 550 butyou have to have the tranny and rears for it or no legit shop will turn it up.i believe you have to have a 18 or 15 speed tanny minimum:biggrin_25511:

    13 or 18, the 15 doesn't rate high enough.

You should be fine turning a c15 to 500hp. but one thing you need to check out is if the rear ends and transmission are rated to go that high. You need to get the serial numbers off both the transmission and rears then call a cat dealer and tell them what you want done. They will tell you if their rated to go that high.

I would think nothing about what the trans and rears are rated for. They will take it if you dont pound on it every time you pull out from a light. You have a brain its connected to your foot use it(your brain).
Dont believe all the stories about poor mileage either. I have a 550 cat turned up to 725 and have done nothing to the trans and if I were running otr I would think that 7+ would very easy to attain. I get 6.5 running local and hauling heavy with a heavy foot.

A/T, i have a 387 w/ a cat c-15 with a modified ecm, i get 6.7 mpg at present time. dont know if consider that good, but they are capable of it and more if driven right imo. dont be so hard on Detroit's they also can be tuned/finessed for mileage and power as well.

i have a 475hp Detroit and average 7.2mpg in a century now, and with 10,000lbs in the box it struggles to pull bunny hills never mind a actual grade.

    I've driven a 2001 379EXHD Pete with a 550Cat and a 18spd and i LOVED it.

I've even driven a POS FLD with a 550cat and that POS with a 10 spd could pull anything lol

I dont rememeber what either got for fuel mileage though i wanna save 5.something lol

I'm so lost at looking at trucks right now, some have a good transmission (13 or 18spds) some have a cummins! some have cats, allot have Detroits:biggrin_25511: and 10 spds.

Most of what im finding under $40k is so old i cant least it to most companies, or is newish 2003+ and in horrible condition or have 800,000+ miles on it

I want to go independant so an older truck wouldnt be bad IF i can keep it running and good on fuel, AND the big one figure out how to run as an independant O/O:biggrin_25526:

There are lots of companies that dont have age limits on the trucks. Matter of fact most of them are better places to be. Dont over look the small places. You can make very good money if you find a small mom and pop place the has a few good customers.
