Georgia trucker arrested in NY for carrying gun without permit

The total citywide ban on handgun ownership within the city limits of Chicago was recently challenged..but i cant say i ever heard/read the results...

 

The newspaper reported that police found the gun “unloaded, on a shelf next to his sleeper bed and a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition.”
you can Transport, Not Carry a handgun in any state providing the gun is unloaded and is locked separately from the ammo.

The Guy was leased to MYWAY transportation out of Cullman ,AL i just left there. The last i heard he was still in jail. They Termed him right on the spot and sent a local driver to get the truck . I wasn't sure the guys name but the saftey lady told me about this and im guessing this is the same guy if not sorry. But i haven't heard of anyone else going to jail in newyork for a hand gun.

Plaxico Burress just did a stretch in the big house for having a gun in New York City.

 

New York has some screwy gun laws on the books. I did some research on this several years ago when we were discussing it on another forum. Unless the law has changed you can have a gun in your vehicle that is NOT loaded but the ammo is in close proximity and you can be charged with a felony. According to the law at the time I checked it, they consider it as a loaded gun. No wonder those people are so nutty. They don't recognize any other CCW permit but their's and you can't get a New York permit unless you are a resident. I don't remember all the potential fines or prison time, but you can be convicted in New York whereas you would not even have been arrested in most other states. Massachusetts also has some crazy gun laws. I don't know if the challenge in Chicago and Washington DC made a difference in their laws or not.

 

The laws in NY ae very hard on carrying with out a permit. With that said I have learned one important thing since trucking and on the forums, if you wanna carry a gum with you make sure you have a double sleeper....so you can carry a lawery in your cab LOL Thats the only way you can carry.
