Don't know what type of trl they give you. I'm not 100% I'm going to take the job. Coils is a dangers thought!! Money is great! I just don't know yet?
The more I think about it the more I'm talking myself out of it. Maybe I'm over thinking it.

I would not want to put that much weight on one of my trailers. There was a time when steel haulers would regularly haul 2 loads at a time. Essentially, this is two loads with that much weight. They could double their income with each load. I doubt that most people would want to take a chance on that much weight all the time. Still, it is good money for the short miles.
-
It isn't any more dangerous hauling coils than other types of steel as long as you properly secure the load. It makes me more nervous to see how others secure coils than me. I usually throw an extra chain or strap on heavy loads, especially coils. If the weight calls for 4 chains, I will usually put on 5. You can never have too many chains. Short runs such as these would work well if you had a side kit if they need to be tarped. I really like a side kit for hauling steel. -
Finally somebody that knows the facts. The reason I say this is because he did mention Honda. Thanks for that info.

If you would have asked about doing this a few months ago he would have been correct, there were as many loads as anyone could handle. But the loads he's talking about to coshocton are sporadic. They're usually once a month 300-500 tons and only last 2-3 days. Zanesville has been shut down for months. Also with coil loads they pay by the weight, so if you only haul 40k you won't make crap. If the company you talked to is either of the two I mentioned RUN. Whenever Les2 gets back from vacation and gets back on here he'll tell you the same thing. If your going to haul heavy coil loads daily you need an 80k MAC flat.

what about one of those coil trailers i seen on here?

Are you talking about a trailer with a coil package?

Sorry to offend you. In my world you aren't independent unless you have your own authority. If you lease you aren't independent. Hence the questions.
Of course this comes from the way the terminology was used when I started in 1979. Still it's kind of hard to make good suggestions without gathering facts. -
I agree to a point. I can still at any given time pull the pin & tell them to stick it. 1979? Thats around the year I started driving. I could get my authority but I've read on here that many have dropped theirs and are doing just as good if not better leased on with a company! -
Your kidding right? To lease on with Landstar you now got to have a qualcomm and be willing to deadhead........alot! Mercer is fast becoming the king of rate cutting.
Besl was a great carrier years ago. Two of my friends were leased on for over 20 years, there now leased on here where I'm at. Just because a carrier has dozen if not hundreds of trucks makes it a great place to lease on too. The Mom and Pop joints that you dont see every day are some of the better carriers. The lease on for 75% of 100% is BS. Think about it.....if you gross just a $100,000.00 in a year you gave $25,000.00 to your carrier and for what? To pay your fuel tax's and give you a base plate.
HEY!!!! just because I had a headlight out dont be bad mouthin' me!!! You sidewalk ridin' steer tire killin' truck driver.
